Learn Forma Preconstruction (Takeoff and Estimate) in 90 minutes

Course overview

Forma Preconstruction is a connected cloud workflow that brings together project setup, quantity takeoff, and cost estimating in a single environment. This course guides you through the complete preconstruction process, starting from project access and setup through to quantity extraction and cost development

You will follow a structured, hands-on workflow that reflects real preconstruction processes used in practice. Across the modules, you will learn how to access and navigate a project, extract and manage quantities from 2D drawings and 3D models and develop structured cost estimates.

By the end of this course, you will be able to work confidently within the Forma Preconstruction environment and apply integrated workflows for takeoff and estimating.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Access and navigate the Forma Preconstruction environment.
  • Configure a project for takeoff and estimating.
  • Extract and organize quantities from 2D drawings and 3D models.
  • Prepare takeoff data for use in cost estimation.
  • Develop structured cost estimates using Forma Estimate.
  • Update and refine estimates as project information changes.

The step-by-step video instruction totals approximately 90 minutes. The course also includes quizzes, practice exercises, and a capstone project that give you opportunities to apply what you've learned. These activities take additional time to complete and are not included in the 90-minute estimate.

To receive a course completion certificate, you’ll need to click through all course content, including the videos, quizzes, exercises, and project. While the hands-on activities are optional for learning, they must be accessed in order to track course progress. You’ll also need to complete the final test with a passing score of 75 percent to earn the certificate.
