Applying AI in engineering workflows

Apply AI to real-world engineering design and analysis workflows for the classroom.

Module overview

AI becomes most valuable when it is embedded into real engineering workflows. In this module, educators will explore how AI powers design automation, simulation, and analysis across modern engineering environments. Connect foundational concepts to practical applications, including generative design, text-to-geometry workflows, surrogate models, reduced order modeling, and physics-informed AI.

It's expected that educators are familiar with engineering design or simulation workflows and have a working knowledge of digital modeling tools.

In this module, educators will learn how to:

  • Describe how generative AI and agentic systems support design automation workflows.
  • Apply AI-driven approaches to simulation acceleration, including surrogate models and reduced order modeling.
  • Evaluate AI-generated design outputs using structured review criteria.
  • Teach students how to validate and build trust in AI-assisted simulation results.

By the end of this module, you’ll be able to connect AI theory to practical engineering applications and guide students in using these tools responsibly, critically, and effectively.
