Projektni Biro Split is an engineering company focused on the design of hydropower and hydro technical facilities. Their design teams are comprised of professionals of diverse technical backgrounds and projects are complex with numerous unique challenges.
For the project of hydropower plant Kosinj, Projektni Biro Split wanted to improve the collaboration between their design teams, make handling the design issues easier, and explore new ways to handle the complexity of the project.
In order to achieve the project goals, BIM workflow methodology was adopted. The primary goals of this implementation were:
1) Streamlined production of design documentation based on a parametric 3D BIM model
2) 3D coordination and clash detection
3) 3D visualization of the facilities
As part of the BIM implementation, a BIM execution plan was prepared and standards for handling documentation, design and coordination workflows were defined. The Autodesk BIM 360 platform was chosen as a common data environment for the project. Implementation and training was delivered by Autodesk Solution Provider PRIOR inženjering and support continues throughout the project to help ensure successful adoption.
As the result of the adoption of BIM methodology and BIM 360 as a cloud based common data environment, design teams were able to communicate and handle design issues in a more efficient manner. The ability to effortlessly visualize the objects in 3D and to create ad-hoc visualizations and detailed views helped in handling design issues and finding optimal solutions for the project challenges. Initial efforts to define common standards and procedures payed back through the improved ability of the design team to collaborate efficiently on a complex project.
BIM has a great potential to improve efficiency in handling complex projects and empowers design teams through better insights and ability to respond to design issues. This initial BIM implementation at Projektni Biro Split helped them to assess that potetntial and to plan for the further development.
