Success Story

Design Automation Using Inventor ilogic for SKM Air Conditioners

Design Automation Using Inventor ilogic for SKM Air Conditioners

Customer challenge

SKM Air Conditioners are packaged Air Conditioner manufacturers, who are pioneers in the field of HVAC. Their design involves designing the customized units according to the client requirements. They are using Autodesk Inventor software for their design and drafting requirements. The existing workflow needs 2 – 3 working days to copy and modify the existing design to reuse in the new projects and generate the manufacturing drawing. They are looking to cut down the design lead time by implementing design automation techniques available in the Inventor software. There are conflicts between the design and manufacturing process regarding the BOM. In the part list table, users entered the dimensions manually first, while any modifications in designs later need to be updated manually in the BOM. SKM Air Conditioners wanted to implement the automatic extraction of model dimensions to the part list table.

Project goals

After a complete assessment of the SKM workflow, we set our project goals as follows: 1) Implement iLogic Design Automation methods to create new variants of the design model and assemblies in easier ways and reduce the design lead time to a single day. 2) Introduce logic rules to updating the part list table to ensure correct BOM to Manufacturing.

Solution

After a complete study, we identified one of their critical model assemblies and planned to implement design automation using Inventor iLogic. The ImageGrafix team assisted the SKM Engineers to create iLogic rules for that model assembly to enable the iLogic assembly to make a number of design variants along with the complete automated detailing. After a complete study of the SKM Design Engineering Team members expertise in Inventor software, ImageGrafix proposed 3 days training for a group of people in Design Automation using Inventor iLogic. The training will impart them the necessary knowledge about iLogic and improve their skills in implementing the iLogic rules in their design models.

Business outcome

ImageGrafix successfully built one of the critical model assemblies using the iLogic Design Automation feature. After enabling the iLogic design automation, the different variants of the assemblies are built faster. A completely new variant of the assembly along with detailing are made using iLogic design assembly within an hour very easily. Since iLogic rules are implemented in the model as well as in detailing, the part list also updates to the changes in the configuration automatically.

Conclusion

ImageGrafix supported SKM Air Conditioners by providing necessary training in Autodesk Inventor iLogic, helped in the creation of rules in one of their existing assemblies, and initiated the ways for doing design automation using iLogic methods. Now, the SKM Design Team is working on other assemblies with iLogic rules to enable design automation to reduce the design lead time for new variations.

Construction Project Management Software - Implementation

The consortium needs to select a Construction Project Management platform that will be used for the construction of a Iconic Government Building in Dubai. The platform should be capable to handle unlimited data storage, different design file formats and useful for sharing, collaboration, coordination and handover stage.

Supporting in selection & implementation of a CDE

The JV needs to Design, Build with options for maintenance of the facilities of the main rail depot. The JV group wanted to select a CDE platform, so that all the companies part of the JV, Architect, Consultants and Subcontractors can collectively collaborate and share the information. Managing and sharing data is a huge challenge between different locations. With the work being carried out at a different location/countries, it was difficult for individuals to share their data, document controller to monitor progress, reviews, issues, etc.

BIM Implementation

Metito is a global leader and provider of choice for total intelligent water management solutions with operations covering three business areas: design and build, specialty chemicals, and utilities. Based on the recent government BIM mandates on public and private projects, Metito began thinking of implementing BIM and making themselves ready for the future.
