Customer challenge

Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) is the Owner and Developer for the New Administrative capital in Egypt which is located 35KM east of Cairo of a total area of 170,000 feddan.

This new capital will help to strengthen and diversify the country’s economic potential by creating new places to live, work and visit. In order to draw people to this new capital city, a series of key catalyst developments will be established at its core. This will include a new government administrative district, a cultural district and a wide variety of urban neighborhoods.

However, they are facing challenges concerns on the following:

- Variety of advanced MEP systems to be constructed on site.

- Lack of communication as the project is divided to 4 contractors.

- Coordination between project phases with the 4 contractors to provide consolidated package.

- Project As-built package for facility management as there was an external entity for combining As-built.

Project goals

ACUD has established some project goals, as follows:

1. Delivering common data environment (CDE) to enhance project communication between parties within the project duration.

2. Provide coordinated MEP packages through reaching zero clash to enhance construction process on site.

3. Provide Facility Management Roadmap & requirements for the customer to be generalized on all contractors for collecting accurate As-built packages at end of the project delivery.

Solution

ACUD has collaborated with Quality Standards for Information Technology on 3D BIM models using Autodesk Revit to facilitate modeling of MEP networks. In addition to quality validation through inserting BIM models to Autodesk Navisworks to verify zero strong clashes to save time & money, Quality Standards for Information Technology used Autodesk Docs and ACS to speed-up submissions & approvals cycles for all Project stakeholders.

Business outcome

Using Autodesk products assist to facilitate customer challenges by providing common CDE for all project documents & deliverables through Autodesk DOCS and ability to work with all project stakeholders. They worked with Autodesk Revit & Autodesk Navisworks to deliver coordinated models which reflects on time & money for ACUD.

Conclusion

Building trust between these 2 companies through high quality deliverables and outcomes and introducing latest technological advancements for BIM technology that Autodesk provides which helps in meeting customer requirements.

ALKAN CIT had a big challenge in delivering this mega project in 5 years. Also, the other big challenge is that AlKAN CIT needed this project in 3D format including all the information. Additionally, the team was challenged by miss-communication between the home office and remote sites which led to data diversity. Finally clashes among disciplines caused delays and issues in construction schedules.
