ALKAN CIT had a big challenge in delivering this mega project in 5 years. Also, the other big challenge is that AlKAN CIT needed this project in 3D format including all the information. Additionally, the team was challenged by miss-communication between the home office and remote sites which led to data diversity. Finally clashes among disciplines caused delays and issues in construction schedules.
Goals were identified as follows:
1) Project was considered fast track project that should be accomplished in not more than 5 years.
2) Delivering the project using BIM modelling.
3) Achieving a zero clash model.
All the conceptual drawings were provided by AlKAN CIT in 2D format. So, ALKAN's technical team managed to transform all the 2D drawings into Civil 3D models. In addition, the Civil 3D model was exported to Autodesk InfraWorks for visualization and making a marketing video. Autodesk Navisworks manage to help ALKAN CIT's technical team to manage and detect clashes early before issuing shop drawings for construction. Autodesk BIM 360 Build played an important role in linking the office with the construction site.
The most crucial output from this project was building the BIM unit team that has experience and capabilities in delivering similar BIM projects. It's worth noting that ALKAN CIT managed to deliver a zero clash model in just three and half years instead of five years. The BIM unit in ALKAN CIT is expanding and wining more BIM projects thanks to Autodesk product utilization and Autodesk BIM technology. The Autodesk Construction Cloud helped in centralizing all project data in a (Single Source Of Truth) platform.
