BIM Integrated Design - "La Bussola" Project

The "La Bussola" project focused on the renovation of an existing building and its conversion into a state-of-the-art wellness center. Cemi Piscine had the task of designing and implementing the plant engineering part of the outdoor pool, Turkish bath and whirlpool tubs located inside the rooms. Specifically, the technical studio had the task of designing all the interconnecting lines for the hydraulic part with PVC-U glued or threaded pipes and fittings, verifying the overall dimensions inside the technical rooms for the filtering and pumping groups for the pools, inserting all the accessories in line such as ball valves, butterfly valves and control valves, distributing the delivery and discharge outlets to the pools in a uniform manner according to design standards. For the electrical side, the team had to design all lines for lighting the pools and powering the flow control equipment. The commissioner requested that the design of the facility be done with BIM Software.

The primary objective of the project was to efficiently design the parts of the facility in such a way as to reduce the time and cost to complete the work and thus allow the client to begin using the business as soon as possible. But all of this had to be supported by a level of design of the highest quality. 

Another key objective was to enable design firms and businesses that were very far apart in the area to communicate, by providing them with common tools that could enable them to communicate correctly without any loss of information. 

A final objective was to implement new BIM Specialists into the design team. These figures had to combine the company's decades of knowledge on the design, implementation and consulting on swimming pools, water parks and wellness centers with the Building Information Modeling system.

The main objectives of the client were related to training and implementation of BIM software within the structure of the design team with the training of new figures specialized in integrated BIM design. For the specific needs of the customer, Autodesk Revit was chosen as software and general training on the potential and developments of the BIM methodology and the national and international regulations governing it was provided. 

We then moved on to specific training on Autodesk Revit for the technical office. First, through a Basic course to learn the mechanisms and general concepts of the software, and then through a specific and customized course on MEP plant engineering disciplines. At the end of the course the company was followed on the project through Project Coaching.

The specific training to the design team on Autodesk Revit, has led Cemi Piscine to be better prepared to face new design challenges, obtaining very important results on interdisciplinary coordination thanks to the reduction of interferences and being able to take advantage of geometric and analytical information from a single database thanks to Autodesk Revit. The project coaching specific to the "La Bussola" project, has favored a further development of the knowledge of the software, putting on the field the notions learned during the training. It was also critical to aligning the software with the company's design needs. The training and project coaching led Cemi Piscine to meet the project deadlines required by the client and deliver all documentation with the required specifications and formats.
