With BIM Proposals on the Horizon JBC Requires a Full BIM Implementation

Customer challenge

Jewer Bailey Consultants Limited (JBC) specializes in structural, mechanical, and electrical system design and approached Redcage after numerous attempts at implementing BIM. Their challenge was to move from a 2D CAD-based workflow into a fully developed and customized BIM Implementation. JBC wanted to create their own custom content and templates specifically applicable to their project requirements, along with customized training for all users as it relates to their own project workflows.

Project goals

JBC was on a tight timeline and needed to implement a fully customized BIM workflow within months. Their goals were to have all drawings for all projects completed using Autodesk Revit and collaborated within Navisworks. They wanted all BIM content, templates, and defined workflows developed and adopted on their first BIM project. They realized that their users would all need to be trained on both Revit and Navisworks fundamentally as well as based on their defined customized workflows.

Solution

The implementation was done in three phases. First was training core users on developing content, templates, and standards for Revit. Secondly, testing what was developed in the first phase while training other users with the specific content and templates. Lastly, further refinement of their content, templates, and workflows was completed as well as advancing their BIM capabilities.

Business outcome

JBC is now successfully bidding on multiple BIM related projects that are focused on BIM deliverables including P3 projects that require BIM deliverables. Moving from CAD to BIM has increased collaboration and coordination internally and externally. They are seeing a decrease in the number of coordination issues. JBC has been able to pull a lot of data from the models for engineering and analysis that in the past was not possible.

Conclusion

JBC selected Redcage for this implementation due to Redcage’s reputation of partnering with their clients, being committed to helping throughout the transition, and providing continued support long-term. Redcage worked closely with JBC to document their current processes and collaborative workflows between each department. Through the course of the implementation, JBC has successfully transitioned their office to BIM and are able to confidently offer BIM services to their clients across Canada.
