Vilniaus Planas success with different BIM tools in public infrastructure projects

Customer challenge

The AEC industry in Lithuania is slowly shifting towards mandatory BIM usage in public sector projects. ME Vilniaus planas, which does more than 90% of projects with and within Vilnius municipality, faced a unique challenge – to adopt BIM technology and different BIM tools in public infrastructure projects, like city squares, parks, green areas, and roads. Therefore, the management of the company decided to start BIM implementation project to prepare the design department for work with BIM technology, support the team with BIM training and tools and provide innovative services to their main client. Vilniaus planas reached out to InfoEra CTO Leonas Jasevičius and Aistė Kirjazovaitė, Head of InfoEra Training Center, to discuss their needs and necessary actions for their company to move forward with BIM implementation.

Project goals

“Company had three major project goals all related to different levels of the organization.” said Jonas Treinys, advisor to the director of Vilniaus planas, “Looking from organization-level our goal was to integrate BIM into ISO process and start the development of company’s BIM standard. On the HR level, our goal was to train different groups of employees (architects, engineers, GIS specialists, and project managers) with basic BIM technology and usage of BIM software (Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Civil 3D, Autodesk Navisworks, Autodesk BIM 360, etc.). On project level, we wanted to start the pilot projects where our team could train on real-world examples as well as our ongoing projects.”

Solution

InfoEra worked with Vilniaus planas to identify the exact needs and analyse the situation in the company and based on the results of this analysis to develop Autodesk BIM implementation plan for Vilniaus planas. This plan included necessary Autodesk software, a training plan consisting of different training programs for different groups of employees, pilot projects with ongoing consultations from InfoEra specialists regarding Autodesk software support, its’ usage, BIM requirements, etc. Over 1 year, 14 Vilniaus planas employees (architects, engineers, GIS specialists, and project managers) attended InfoEra training classes and consultations during the implementation part of pilot projects to get them up-to-speed on the features and functions of the Autodesk software for their environment, to start the development of company’s BIM standard.

Business outcome

“The company’s BIM implementation project has reached its primary goals for 2021, but it is still ongoing. Our main goal is to start using BIM on all new projects starting from 2022 Q2 with our well-trained team,” said Jonas Treinys.

Conclusion

“In our project, we used Infoera as an outside consultant, and they contributed significantly to our success. Infoera helped us with the development of the training program, as well as provided Autodesk BIM software and shared their know-how for project-related tasks,” said Jonas Treinys.

Akso-Haus Ltd Private Residence Building

Towards the end of the year 2021, we had to carry out interior and exterior design project with our partner and client Akso-Haus Ltd (https://www.aksohaus.ee/en/), prefabricated modular houses producer since 2004. The challenge was to support them operatively to bring the final phase of a client’s great idea and vision to life. In this case, the project was quite challenging due to tight project and limited budget size. To insure technical quality, by having same time to keep working efficiency and time schedules, Revismo was opting for Autodesk 3ds Max.

Peat Pallet Line Automation with Autodesk Inventor

Latma SIA helps small and medium-sized companies to implement automated systems and industrial robots in production. The challenge for this project - palletizing different peat substrate packages in both 250L and 300L. The peat is a material which, after pressing, can either remain constant or increase, depending on the weather and the raw materials. Also, the weight of the package reaches 70 kg, but the lifting capacity of the robot has been determined, so a tool (gripper) must be made for moving the peat package and empty pallets, strong enough and long-lasting, but light. There are also two roller conveyors in the line, with one help you can turn the pack around its axis (180 degrees) and plaster it on the other conveyor to 90 degrees. Because the packages must be folded with the specified end to one side.
