Success Story

The Okavango Sub District Council is a local authority of the North West District Council of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development; Republic of Botswana. It is tasked with improving the life for people of the Okavango through effective and efficient delivery of basic infrastructure and social services in partnership with stakeholders.
There are currently ongoing constituency projects of building basic infrastructure for people of the Okavango region. As the projects took off, the council recognized the need to produce good quality designs that are well documented and in a short period of time to meet their targets.
By engaging Cougar Institute of Drafting and Design the council sought to find the best software tools for their projects.
The goals were to:
1. run projects more efficiently.
2. unify teams and workflows.
3. take command of the design data.
Cougar provided the council with Autodesk Revit software to meet their project goals. With the Revit BIM software the following solutions were provided to meet the project needs. Revit was used to:
1. Model buildings, structures, and systems in 3D with parametric accuracy, precision, and ease.
2. Streamline documentation work, with instant revisions to plans, elevations, schedules, and sections as projects change.
3. Empower multidisciplinary teams with specialty toolsets and a unified project environment
1. Efficient planning and scheduling.
Revit modeling made project management easier. Project costing, permits, labour costing, and other activities were all included in construction projects.
Revit modeling was used to generate reports on layout, costs, and materials.
Revit model acted as a single database for all of the model’s data, Revit scheduling reduced the time required by traditional workflows.
Schedules that were put up automatically updated as changes were made in the Revit model, eliminating one of the more time-consuming tasks in the
architectural design process. Schedules were also exported out of Revit, changed, and then imported back in with modifications to aid project management.
2. 3D Realistic Rendering
Revit’s rich material libraries and rendering plug-ins were used to create 2D presentations and 3D visualization outputs.
Views were obtained from any angle or perspective, including inside views, with no problems. Architects and builders were able to show clients
how the finished product will look like before it was even built. A walk-through video inside the designed house can be created to give a clear view of the building.
3. Clash Detection & Construction Documentation
Revit modeling exposed flaws and faults in a building’s design before it was built. As a result, the risks associated with errors and flaws were mitigated before they occur.
Architects and builders were able to remedy mistakes, saving time, money, and lives that would have been at risk if the flaws had not been
detected and corrected.
Autodesk Revit played a major role in speeding up the design process and minimizing errors and flaws. Good quality designs were produced within a short space of time and project deadlines were met with ease.

Migration from Microsoft Visio to AutoCAD Electrical
NTR, a technology company specializing in Electrical Engineering, purchased AutoCAD software to be used by their electrical designers and Engineers, mainly to create and modify electrical control systems, designing wiring systems and circuiting for their Electrical design projects. Initially, they were using Microsoft Visio to do their electrical designs and wiring diagrams for their projects. They faced challenges with documenting their designs and eliminating errors when using Visio. They contacted Cougar Institute of Drafting and Design for help with an Autodesk solution that could be used for Electrical Designs, and also used by other engineers of various professions in the company to complete their projects.
Software Supply and Installation
Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC), a company that provides housing, office and other building needs of the government and local authorities in Botswana, purchased AutoCAD licenses from Cougar Institute of Drafting and Design. The licenses were purchased for different departments such as Architects, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering. They faced a challenge with activating the licenses on some of their machines and involved Cougar Institute of Drafting and Design to assist with the installations.
Leveraging Multiple Disciplinary Tools in Revit for Project Coordination
Gaborone City Council (GCC) Department of Architecture and Buildings has some ongoing construction projects in Gaborone, and most recently the construction of six primary schools. As their construction projects took off,GCC recognized a need to speed up their Architectural and Engineering design process. Through consultation and close collaboration with Autodesk Solution Provider Cougar Institute of Drafting and Design, GCC sought to find an optimal solution for their construction projects.
