Öntőgépszerviz – Complete Integration of CAD/CAM Solution

Öntőgépszerviz – Complete Integration of CAD/CAM Solution

Customer challenge

The Öntőgépszervíz Ltd. produces custom and small series parts by machining for a wide range of industries. The diversity of the parts to be produced and the requirements of the customers demand accurate, reliable, and fast production, so it was obvious to replace traditional production engineering with a modern CAD/CAM solution.

Project goals

The following basic tasks had to be solved during the digitalization of the company's production engineering process: 1) Provide customized CAD/CAM training to the employees in the production engineering staff. 2) Develop post-processors for the 3-/5-axis milling machines in the company. 3) Develop machine kinematics for the 5-axis milling machine. 4) Create a customized NC setup sheet template.

Solution

For an introduction, we trained the product design engineers to work with Fusion 360 through a tailored training session. The training topics were tailored to the manufacturing tasks the customer would face, in order for the employees to learn the necessary skills effectively. The first step in the implementation of Fusion 360 CAM was the creation of customized post-processors for the 3-axis milling machines at the company. In the second step, in addition to the custom post-processor for a 5-axis machine, we also created a kinematics model of the machine; therefore, the designers could accurately check the machine movements during CAM programming. As the company had previously used production documentation too, we created an NC data sheet template to facilitate the digital transition. The NC datasheet creates the production documentation for parts programmed with CAM in the same format as the company previously used.

Business outcome

In contrast to traditional production engineering, the usage of a CAD/CAM system has significantly improved the reliability, accuracy, flexibility, and speed of production. In addition, the possibility of product design and planning manufacturing processes with a CAD/CAM system in parallel has also resulted in significantly lower costs within the first six months after the changeover, compared to the old, traditional process.

Conclusion

With the implementation of the Autodesk Fusion 360 CAD/CAM system, the efficiency of production engineering has significantly increased at Öntőgépszervíz Ltd., on the one part due to the reduction of production times, and on the other part due to the more reliable and accurate design processes. By using the knowledge acquired during the customized training, and with the help of the applications integrated into the modern CAD/CAM system, the company has gained significant benefits by the digitalization of the design and manufacturing processes.

5-axis CAM integration in manufacturing of designer furniture by Nezozen Kft.

Nezozen Ltd. produces large, unique furniture, installations, and sceneries from special plastic materials using 5-axis milling. The NC programming was carried out using an older version of a CAM system. The efficiency of this CAM system has declined significantly over the years. Nezozen Ltd. wanted to improve productivity, programming reliability, and flexibility by introducing a new CAM system.
