Customer challenge

NEWAG S.A. is a leading Polish manufacturer of electric and diesel passenger vehicles, electric and diesel locomotives and subway and tramway vehicles. The entire process of creating and designing a rail vehicle is done digitally, which ensures full control over the quality and availability of materials.

Project goals

The production of a new type of vehicle - Impuls II - required Newag to create a vehicle with high reliability and modern technical solutions. The team needed software that would cover the entire design process from conceptualization, to performing specialized calculations, to preparing prototype models. In the design process, functionality, time to develop technical documentation, and flexibility of execution were important. The company was looking for a system that would cover all of the company's processes, from research, through design, production, to product sales and subsequent service.

Solution

In 2013, the company began implementing software to support manufacturing processes - a PDM system for documentation management and an ERP system. The scattered information in various systems and the resulting operational challenges led the company to create a central product database. Newag decided to implement Autodesk's PLM system, which integrates people, data and processes within the company. The choice of this solution was determined by easy implementation and integration with PDM Vault and ERP systems, and the speed of adaptation of existing processes without costly employee training. For this implementation, an ERP system was combined with a PDM/PLM system.

Business outcome

The PDM/PLM and ERP integration system is currently used on every project giving total control over the data. This allowed Newag to reduce working time by 40%, minimize design errors and increase work efficiency through bi-directional information flow. One Autodesk Vault server allows you to manage the version of each project file and control the entire path of documentation, created in Inventor and other applications. The PLM system manages the entire project, requirements, and coordinates the quality of the product, and all the necessary information is available in real time.

Conclusion

The implementation of the new system was handled by Cadvision Panova Group. Autodesk Vault has been integrated with the ERP system and additionally with Autodesk Fusion 360 Manage. Currently, all product data along with changes are migrated from Autodesk Vault to the ERP system. This allows Newag to coordinate all production processes and the entire product life cycle. In the following years, the PLM system's functionalities will be developed and will cover all departments of the company.

Optimize Design Processes and Increase the Efficiency of Cross-Industry Cooperation with the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering and Construction Collection

PANOVA STUDIO treats every project as a new challenge. The design process is complex and interdependent on many factors. Therefore, when embarking on the Eco City Katowice project, the office had to anticipate and plan the entire design process. They knew from the beginning that they wanted to use the capabilities of the Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection software to complete such a project. The company wanted to develop a method of cooperation that would streamline the design process at the stage of construction design, detailed design and coordination of progress on site. The first stage of work, which included an analysis of the plot's potential, was very important for the whole project. Among other things, at this stage of work, drone flights were made on the basis of which a numerical model of the terrain was created using Civil 3D software. The file transferred to Autodesk Revit allowed the conceptual work to begin with a complete set of key information.
