With the use of CAM systems and automatic production of CNC programs, dimensional control functions have been relegated to the quality control department. In the past, dimensional control was performed by the operators before removing the part from the machine. Nowadays, the part is mainly dimensionally controlled on the CMM, and any correction requires the part to be returned to the CNC machine.
This operational flow (CNC --> CMM --> CNC) causes delays and requires task reschedule on the CNC machines.
The solution to the problem involved implementing a return to dimensional control on the CNC machine in the process. Autodesk has the solution and Autodesk Solution Provider NEWCAM has the experience and knowledge to implement it. NEWCAM carried out a survey of the needs and submitted the implementation plan and costs to the client (FMPS LDA).
The solution involved installing and configuring Autodesk OMV-On Machine Verification (basically a 3D dimensional control on a CNC machine):
Currently, parts rarely need to return to the CNC machine for dimensional corrections. FMPS has an efficient and easy-to-use tri-dimensional control solution with the reliability/tolerance needed for the mold industry (less than 0.01mm).

Optimization of Multi-Axis Production
FRUMOLDE approached NEWCAM in order to validate alternatives to their existing CAM software. The manager's main complaints were the lack of productivity of the 5-axis CNC machines and long downtimes of the CNC machines. The main complaints of the programmers were that the existing software was difficult to handle for 5-axis programming, the calculation times were too long, and the results were not always the most satisfactory.
