Comprehensive Implementation of the Media & Entertainment Collection at Motion Capture Studio

Comprehensive Implementation of the Media & Entertainment Collection at Motion Capture Studio

Customer challenge

Our client, Bones Studio, has been delivering the highest quality animations using Motion Capture technology since 2013. They are a global production studio specializing in full performance capture and universal character animation for AAA games, film and advertising productions. The main problem for Bones Studio, which required implementation of the new solution, was to standardize the pipeline at their studio suitable for flexible cooperation with clients from around the world. Remote teamwork required exchange of data and assets in various formats, which resulted in delays in work appearing in the export of different software formats, as well as extending the path to the final effect of the created animation, which could be used directly in Bones Studio's projects.

Project goals

The most important goal for Bones Studio was to achieve high fluency in their business workflow working on animations and the possibility of improved cooperation directly when creating animations with the client. It was very important for them due to the development of their production, which focuses on virtual production with the use of moving cameras in the acting space and integration directly with the stage in the programs. Bones Studio had previously looked for various solutions and based its work entirely on Autodesk products. PCC Polska's work on this implementation went very smoothly and together with our knowledge of Autodesk software and their experience in creating animations, we were able to prepare a perfectly working pipeline based on Autodesk Media & Entertainment Collection solutions.

Solution

The implementation process was very simple and transparent for the client. The open mind of Adrian Perdjon (CEO) and the amazing knowledge of Marcin Panek (CTO) from Bones Studio allowed for a great exchange of information. Joint effort let us localize a good place in their pipeline, where integration with the client's pipeline was difficult overall. From the beginning, Bones Studio worked only using the Autodesk MotionBuilder software. After consultations, we proposed to change the license from an individual seat of MotionBuilder to a full Media & Entertainment Collection, which contained MotionBuilder as well as other useful programs, such as 3ds Max and Maya. Thanks to this switch, Bones Studio was able to customize its pipeline based on one common environment. By creating their tools for MotionBuilder, Maya and 3ds Max, the client could work on files and assets provided by their clients in various formats and create so-called pre-visualization in software on which clients work.

Business outcome

The main challenge for the customer was to avoid downtime while working with customer materials and to create a pipeline based on the Autodesk environment. The use of the M&E Collection allowed for easy integration of the environment for artists working both in MotionBuilder and other programs such as Maya or 3ds Max. “MotionBuilder allows you to independently script and create tools that will facilitate your work or fulfill the functions you need. By the way, it works stably and very efficiently, which is very important with our many hours of recording and working on the material, so at one point it was a 'no-brainer' for us - we already knew that we had to use MotionBuilder,” says Adrian Perdjon. Additionally, the 3-year subscription, obtained through Autodesk's advantageous installment financing, was the optimal solution. The client did not feel much of the financial investment, thanks to which he kept the capital liquidity.

Conclusion

Cooperation on this project was very smooth. Good preparation and understanding of the client's needs resulted in a smooth implementation process. The investment better organized the entire workflow of the art department, but also allowed for easy management of the purchased licenses by the IT department. The openness and stability of the Autodesk software also allowed the implementation of the client’s customized tools, which increased the efficiency of their Motion Capture studio and allowed for the development of their tool for live streaming of camera traffic directly to the software environment, required by the client. The main business goal for the future is to expand, hire new artists and automate design processes, when working on multiple projects at the same time. That's why Bones Studio wants to invest in the ShotGrid solution for managing tasks in their production studio in the future.

Improving Asset Creation and Pipeline in Game Dev Studio - Render Cube S.A.

Render Cube is an independent Polish game development studio based in Lodz, Poland, providing outsourcing services and later developing games on its own (Monster League, Medieval Dynasty). The main problem after the early release of the second game turned out to be the high expectations of players regarding the quality of the final product. Render Cube wanted to deliver the final version of the game in the highest possible quality. This required filling the whole universe with the highest quality assets and animations. The entire game was built on Unreal Engine, so in order to take advantage of its capabilities, the models had to be prepared in a perfect way with a great topology. Also, the variety of models could have been problematic due to the short time until release.

CERTYFI-CAD: Enhancing and Accelerating the Design Process and Communication with the Customer - PD&M Collection

CERTYFI-CAD is a design office in Rzeszow, Poland, established in 2012. In its activity, it offers services in designing mechanical machines and devices for various industries. In all cases, the scope of design work is agreed with the client and the best variant is proposed in order to achieve the intended effect as soon as possible. The company employs qualified engineers with vast knowledge and experience gained during execution of various projects. Moreover, the team is distinguished by excellent knowledge of 3D design software. During many years of work on various projects, CERTYFI-CAD has developed its own style which is based on involving the client in the project so that the final product is one hundred percent tailored to his needs. One often occurring problem during such cooperation was the lack of an ability to quickly design assembly configurators with different variants of parts or presenting variants of individual parts.

But Juice had problems with project management and communication at what stage a given/specific project is at a given moment as well as with the flow of current information within the company.
