BRAUNABILITY SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVES PRODUCTIVITY IN PROTOTYPING AND PARTS PROGRAMMING

BRAUNABILITY SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVES PRODUCTIVITY IN PROTOTYPING AND PARTS PROGRAMMING

Customer challenge

The process of designing and manufacturing accessible vehicles that meet and exceed the needs of the end-users is time and labor intensive and requires precise prototyping to prove the design before beginning production. Any increase in productivity or decrease in man hours provides significant savings in both time and money. Also, many complex parts require additional time to design and manufacture, and the overflow requires outside assistance.

Project goals

BraunAbility had 2 key goals that needed to be met: 1) Introduce function and clearance applications using Kinematics 2) Complex nature of mechanism required adding Tolerance Stack-up

Solution

Tata Technologies assessment of the the situation led to a solution that increased the use of AutoCAD 2020, Inventor Professional, and implementation of Vault Professional and Power Inspect, with an eye to reducing the time from design to prototype. The decision to expand the use of Inventor Professional not only resolved the issues of inspecting the sub-assembly’s kinematics but also performing stress analysis and prototyping improvements through model-based dimensioning.

Business outcome

By creating models in Autodesk Inventor and eliminating the need for manually drafting a print for use in programming a part for machining and then using that model in programming, significant savings were realized. On average, over three hours of intensive labor was saved per prototype part for a reduction of over 130 hours in drafting and almost 900 in parts programming.

Conclusion

Always committed to growth and improvement, BraunAbility is now researching further gains in productivity, reductions in time to part, and the ability to design and produce increasingly more complex parts in-house. This continued pursuit of innovative solutions is what allows BraunAbility to continue to lead in producing the most advanced mobility solutions in the accessible vehicle marketplace.

MEETING DEADLINES IN THE FAST PACED AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

Being a one-man show, it’s difficult to meet delivery deadlines in the fast-paced Automotive industry. Penalties can be significant and put a project in the red. And Motorvamp has found it necessary to occasionally employ temporary help to meet obligations and deadlines. Due to dwindling staffing resources in the industry and no standards, this was quickly becoming a costly issue. CAD data preparation and migration caused significant delays.

FIELD ACCESS TO CAD FILES ENSURES TIMELY PROJECT COMPLETION

Field installation and access to relevant material are extremely important in the timely installation of unique water parks for Rain Drop. To say the least, Aaron Jackson has a demanding travel schedule. Live access to CAD files and other documents for the onsite work is critical and not just for a quality installation. “Grand Opening” dates cannot be rescheduled, and an on-time completion of the facility is a requirement.

80/20 Meets Customer Needs while Saving Time, Money and Reducing Cost!

Because workspace functionality is taking on an increasingly strategic role within business activities, 80/20’s customers are challenged with finding more efficient and productive ways to operate. Companies that want to become or stay lean are continually looking to curb wastes in inventory, motion, and waiting. 80/20 customers need a station design that can be adjusted up or down to accommodate the user; mount bins for storage or incorporate paneling to organize tools.
