Giving Good Use to Probes Already Installed in CNC Machines
IGM is a company specialized in manufacturing big moulds. The starting point is an already roughed stock. Due to the complexity and size of the moulds and the high finishing level required, a huge amount of individual toolpaths will be applied to each mould to subsequently reduce the stock material.A common problem consists of considering the mould finished and removing it from the machine to later in the process, normally during mould assembly, discover that some surfaces still have excess material thickness.This requires the altering of the whole shop floor programming, removing parts from the machine to load the part with excess thickness, making a perfect alignment, producing new CAM toolpaths, and more.The challenge was to start using the probes that are already installed on all milling centers and determine if the part can be removed or not.
