Licence Optimisation Project For A Global Engineering Consultant
KONGSBERG specialises in developing advanced technologies, to provide extreme performance for extreme conditions. Working together as a global team, it has created an integrated portfolio of solutions, for businesses, partners and nations operating from the depths of the sea; to outer space; to the digital frontier. It uses many of the Autodesk products throughout its global team, across different divisions, business units and countries. As Autodesk retires subscription plans based on serial numbers and moves to a model where software entitlement is based on named users, Kongsberg faced the challenge of transitioning most of its users to this new model. As a long-standing customer of Autodesk, it had selected multi-user concurrent licencing historically, and over time it had based its procurement, software asset management and deployment processes on this model.

Managing Change Effectively: How Autodesk and Cadline Helped Smitsair to Automate its Design Process, Free Up Time and Support its Business Growth Initiatives
Cadline was originally introduced to Smitsair to conduct a review of their design, configurator and data management systems and processes. It was established that there was a product configurator in place in Smitsair’s ISAH system, but it provided 2D drawings which were generated with scripts that could no longer be maintained. In addition, to process non-standard orders meant an engineer had to manually edit the flat patterns in 2D which is much more difficult than if these could be edited using a 3D model. Drawings and project files were linked in the ERP system by using shortcuts within specified tabs, but the files itself were stored in Windows folders with no version or revision control. For one-off projects the team used 3D modelling software, but this was no longer supported so the Smitsair team needed to switch to a 3D tool that was capable of both driving design automation and producing one-off projects on the same platform.

Implementing BIM Standards and a Common Data Environment for a Global Engineering Consultant
SWECO is one of Europe’s leading architecture and engineering consultancies, carrying out multidisciplinary projects in 70 countries annually across the world. It has a substantial presence in the Netherlands, delivering major projects for the public and private sector. The technical leadership within the Netherlands division identified BIM as a catalyst for growth and standardisation as well as the opportunity to provide new services to a broader range of customers. The team were already highly proficient at using Autodesk’s BIM technology to deliver customer projects but identified a need to adopt industry standards such as ISO19650 and a Common Data Environment (CDE) to ensure that the project information it delivers to its customers meets the highest standards. SWECO engaged Autodesk Solution Provider Cadline to conduct a top-down review of its readiness to gain ISO19650 certification as well as provide a robust CDE infrastructure.
