V1 Continues its International Growth using Autodesk Tools to Create Stunning Visualisations

Customer challenge

Visualisation One Limited is a specialized architectural 3D visualisation, animation and multimedia design company, primarily using Autodesk 3ds Max as its core modelling software. Their ongoing challenge was how they could leverage more performance from their infrastructure to increase productivity and stay ahead of their competitors. Autodesk tools are a staple part of their production process, but they needed to improve performance, network speed, storage/backup and speed of project delivery. As projects are becoming more complex, their IT infrastructure was starting to creak. So, they needed to look at both their Autodesk tools deployment (are they using the functionality to deliver true performance), and ensure that their backbone of hardware to create this content was efficient, scalable and future proof.

Project goals

The following priority project goals were identified: •Identify the bottlenecks in creative work (skills, IT) and project delivery and provide recommendations for enhancements. •Allow Autodesk Solution Provider Bluegfx to do a site audit to identify IT issues and deliver improvements. •Validate the optimisation of the use of Autodesk tools in their studios, including third-party software (Chaos V-Ray).

Solution

Bluegfx spent time analysing the existing IT equipment, much of which they had supplied, to test their network speeds, storage, back-up, archiving, workstation performance, graphics card suitability, and more, to propose improvements. They also looked at all the software tools they were using to evaluate their production process to see if they were using Autodesk tools to their highest functionality, including third-party plug-ins such as the V-Ray renderer. As a result, Bluegfx proposed a series of hardware updates that facilitated faster data transmission, new workstations and quicker delivery of render timelines. Our technical team also worked with them to review their use of Autodesk 3ds Max and V-Ray to confirm their use and skills level and reviewing best practices. The positive outcome being that they are working to an extremely high level with Autodesk tools.

Business outcome

The hardware introduced (switches, workstations, graphic cards, storage, and more) allowed them to improve performance, stay ahead of their competitors as they could take on larger projects and higher volumes of work, and deliver projects faster. Older projects are now backed up, freeing space for daily content creation. The process remains ongoing as Bluegfx supports them remotely with on-site, remote and telephone support as required.

Conclusion

The whole studio received a complete “makeover”, and this has facilitated company growth as their software and hardware are aligned, and they can now scale better to meet the demand for larger client projects. As part of Bluegfx’s service, we provide V1 with a weekly update of any support issues as part of an annual support contract. John Crighton, Director @ V1: “All Autodesk software solutions are supplied to V1 and supported by Bluegfx. V1 has been working with Bluegfx for over a decade now and has a maintenance contract with them which includes Autodesk software, other third-party software, hardware, infrastructure, storage, backup and networking”. “Bluegfx are always on hand to help out. We have always had a good working relationship with them. They supply us with the software we need when we need it and give us all the support we require, eliminating any issues we might have and enabling us, in turn, to focus on the creative aspect of our work.”
