Hurni Engineering, member of Hexagroup, a été sollicité par Mikron pour trouver un nouveau système PDM (Gestion de données produits) compatible avec leur écosystème actuel, l’implémenter et l’accompagner dans la transition. Mikron se devait de changer son système PDM (SmarTeam V5R20) car il n’était plus supporté par son éditeur, qui l’avait abandonné au profit d’une nouvelle solution technologique. L’intégration de celle-ci avec le système CAO d’Autodesk, utilisé par Mikron, était problématique et aurait requis une personnalisation trop complexe pour que tous les systèmes soient compatibles. La volonté a été de choisir un système PDM du même éditeur que le système CAO d'Autodesk, ou un système PDM proche de l’ERP SAP. Ceci afin d’éviter de reproduire les erreurs du passé en construisant une architecture complexe qui aurait grandement compliqué les mises à jour.
