Optimized Workflow with Inventor, Vault and Revit

Optimized Workflow with Inventor, Vault and Revit

Customer challenge

In Grenaa, Denmark, lies one of the country's leading suppliers of complex steel and pipe engineering plants: HSM Industri A / S. Here, around 200 people are working in making large up-welded steel structures. It can be anything from railway bridges to structures for the offshore industry. The company designs, constructs and produces from the address in Grenaa. The design and construction tasks are performed in Autodesk Software with Invent A/S on the sidelines as CAD supplier. HSM Industri A/S has a persistent wish of having easier workflows in the Autodesk programs: the aim of making it easier for the department to collaborate internally, as well as with customers and partners.

Project goals

The primary project goal was to always have the right Autodesk set-up to be able to carry out the projects the company is facing. At the beginning of 2022, we visited Project Manager Ricky Rølle, to shed light on the company's workflows in Inventor and Vault, but also to hear about their benefits of using AutoCAD, Revit and SmartInvent. We also got a look into the production, where the big projects were going well. HSM Industri A/S primarily uses Autodesk Inventor, but also AutoCAD, depending on whether it makes sense for the current task. This makes sense if the construction department receives a proposal from an architect, which must be drawn over for production drawings. This mostly takes place in Inventor, which saves significant time compared to the 'old days', when the company had to draw everything by hand on a flat 2D drawing.

Solution

Occasionally, the design department also receives Revit format files from customers. Here, the department has the advantage that they can take the Revit files into Inventor, and work on them in Inventor, and subsequently send them back in Revit format to the customer. It is smart! At the company, they also use Vault to manage and archive files. They see many benefits of using Vault; for example, when files need to be renamed and when communicating with colleagues. Especially the check-in and -out function is indispensable. At HSM Industri A/S, they use Invent’s SmartInvent tools for Inventor and Vault. "SmartInvent gives us the advantage in that we have extremely easy access to print and generate cut files," says Ricky Rølle.

Business outcome

HSM Industri A/S primarily use Invent A/S to deliver Autodesk Software. The communication with Invent A/S is excellent, and when it comes to support for Autodesk Software, there is a quick response within 10-15 min. In particular, the company's Vault setup has great value, and as Ricky says, "It never goes wrong with Vault".

Conclusion

“With the tools we have from Autodesk, and the collaboration with Invent A/S, I feel that we are well-equipped for the future. We are flexible and can react very quickly with the tools we have,” says a satisfied Ricky Rølle.

Template with Specifications

KLIMA Huse is engaged in building environmentally friendly houses. The company is a leader in low-energy house construction in Denmark. The company's design studio had a great desire to perform several of the house's tasks in-house and become even more independent in all the processes that occur when a construction project is to be completed. KLIMA Huse's challenge was, among other things, that they had a heavy and unmanageable template, composed of many different people.

Getting Started with Autodesk Revit and Invent A/S

Previously, FJ Huse used external consultants to perform tasks in Autodesk Revit. The company had a desire to be able to perform the work tasks in-house and it came to happen in collaboration with Invent A/S.
