Customer challenge

MRA provides hospitality, gaming and mixed-use technology plans, designs, installations, integrations, commissioning, and documentation with equipment and low voltage wiring. Traditionally documentation was provided thru AutoCAD, however MRA saw a developing need to be more a part of the BIM process. While having received basic Revit training, their use of specialized components necessitated the development of custom families and procedures using as much of the existing data as possible.

Project goals

MRA needed to be prepared to have a deeper understanding of the BIM process and be prepared to provide BIM deliverables with their specialized communications infrastructure technology. Design personnel needed to be able to produce content and their estimators and project managers understand the value and time required to produce custom content.

Solution

Although MRA already had some familiarity with Revit, they reached out to our team at Robotech CAD Solutions to help them produce meaningful content that could be modified and re-used. We provided remote hands-on training with students at different locations due to Covid lockdown, yet were able to give individual mentoring for efficient skill building at time intervals that was minimally disruptive to their normal billable workflow.

Business outcome

We were able to help MRA gain insight into custom content building allowing their components to be part of a BIM model, facilitating customer approval, construction and ultimately facility management with their systems. MRA is now well poised to win more business because their technology can now be inserted to a Revit building model efficiently.

Conclusion

With pre-engagement consultation, we determined MRA's goals and requirements to provide custom training and on going support. Our flexible scheduling allowed MRA student to continue with their existing projects, even under lock-down conditions. MRA is now able to bid and provide BIM content on projects with predictable costs.
