MH Theme Design Sdn Bhd is a "Specialist Theme Contractor" and Interior Design Consultancy. They use robot machining for the creation of large character statues for display in theme parks. Their existing workflow was mostly manual and this resulted in long working hours. They also wanted to significantly improve the quality of their products.

Project goals

MH Theme’s goal, with the use of Autodesk softwares, was to increase output from 2-3 sets to 4-5 sets per month by automating the robot machining process to reduce cycle time and dependence on skilled manpower. They also aim to improve the finishing quality of statues, reduce rework and eliminate rejection.

Solution

MH Theme invests in Autodesk PowerShape and Autodesk PowerMill Ultimate for design and robotic machining. E & C Solutions, together with robotics system integrator Idea PLT, conducted a series of intensive training sessions for the users as most were new to robotic machining technology. 

Business outcome

MH Theme was able to significantly improve the quality and accuracy of their 3D models through reverse engineering with Autodesk PowerShape. Robot Milling function in Autodesk PowerMill Ultimate enabled them to machine the statues faster and more accurately. With less manual work required for machining, the overall lead time was reduced.

Conclusion

With automated robot milling, MH Theme was able to increase their output to 5 sets per month. The statues produced were of higher quality. Reverse engineering and automated robot machining have given them the flexibility to design and manufacture more complex products. With the less manual work, they were able to allocate manpower to more value-adding tasks.
