One of Mineral Resources Limited's (MRL’s) most complex mining projects was the design, commission and operation of the Mt. Marion lithium mine site. Machinery designed for particular processes and the rapid deployment of them into the field requires intensive design, planning and stress-testing to ensure designs can withstand the intense and heavy workloads for which they are subject.
Giving Flexibility to Complex Designs
The complexity itself manifests further into the involvement of cost, functionality and time efficiency. The ‘catch-22’ is that complex designs require flexible solutions but complex designs leave little room for flexibility. An example of a complex project was the design of chute wear plates. Chute wear plates are custom manufactured to individual plant needs and have to handle various dynamic loading of high frequency for a long period of time.
