Customer challenge

SmartCADD Engineering Services is a well-established, well respected engineering firm based out of Auckland and Ahmedabad dealing mainly in Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire and  Electrical. In this Healthcare project, they had to arrange temporary facility of 1000 beds at the quarantine center within short period of time. 

Their team faced the following challenges:

  • 15+ Consultants were working in one single project of Quarantine center, to work collaboratively and parallel in BIM as well as 2D CAD formats.

  • Releasing shop drawings, raising RFI and resolving the issues at the same time was a major task as the construction and installation started on the site.

  • Frequent design changes in the Structure and Architecture models were a significant impact on managing the project efficiently.

Project goals

SmartCADD had defined the main milestones to achieve for the project:

  • Implement new software for an improved collaborative and visualization workflow.

  • Optimize the time for repetitive tasks using automated tools.

  • Maintain the log of drawings and model updates.

  • Store database into model to make model mature for the facility management using Autodesk Revit.

Solution

To implement the Autodesk solutions from the Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) Collection and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) thoroughly, the SmartCADD team started implementing Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro as a platform to communicate, coordinate and share the models with different consultants and contractors on the site.

Using Revit for BIM modelling and asset information integration for the installation and maintenance, the SmartCADD team digitally transformed all the deliverables and consultants during the Covid-19 lockdown to meet the collaboration, modelling and communication requirements.

To reduce time, from traditional email communication and raising RFI separately on some other platform, they explored Autodesk BIM 360. After every phase of the project, SmartCADD exports Navisworks files for raising clashes in saved viewports and quantification of BOM for the fixtures and other equipment along with asset information and catalogue URLs.

Business outcome

Digital execution and transformation to the AEC sector using the AEC and ACC platforms has opened doors for other stakeholders and consultants across the globe. Without getting delayed in delivery for the drawings and BIM models by executing the automation software achieved a reduction in hours for modelling efforts and increased the quality with enabled productivity.

Conclusion

The overall setting up of the quarantine center was successful with our demo and quick support on live project with the aim to digitize by using the set of AEC Collection and BIM 360 solutions.
