Guidance for Network Rendering Solutions

Guidance for Network Rendering Solutions

Customer challenge

ITP Media Group wanted to utilize their 3D artist resources effectively without wasting their precious working production hours. But their artists were unable to utilize their PC for further productivity during rendering time. They also know that rendering tasks will take a long time and demand lots of system resources too. Therefore, they were seeking a solution to save time and be cost-effective too. Hence, they approached CADD Emirates for an solution. Our customer preferred to utilize their spare Workstation which is sitting idle for some time instead of investing in additional hardware resources for enabling this process. Also, they mentioned the list of 3rd Party plug-ins required for their projects.

Project goals

Priority project goals identified were as follows: 1) Installing a software solution on the spare workstation (Autodesk 3ds Max, Backburner Tool, and necessary 3rd party plug-ins). 2) Enabling the Backburner Tool. 3) Testing with Test Render (without materials, and with materials and textures). 4) Educating Customer on UNC path requirements for this Network Rendering Setup. 5) Provide assistance required with using one of their special plug-ins that they use significantly in their production pipeline.

Solution

Since ITP Media stated that they required 3rd party plug-ins and preferred to use their existing workstation, we suggested to go for a Network Rendering setup with the Backburner Tool. In this process, the 3D artist can assign the rendering task alone to this rendering machine and continue working on their production PC as usual. Also, the customer won’t be required to invest more for major software as this feature is in the existing build. We also informed our customer that they will need to procure 3rd party plug-ins for this pipeline as most plug-ins are not yet enabled with such feature. This plug-in cost is negligible when considering costs for the major software and faster, productive hours of the artist. We guided our customer by enabling this setup with their existing spare workstation to meet the critical project requirements. We are happy helping our customers in such technical aspects and also helping to enable significant cost savings too.

Business outcome

Our customer successfully started performing network rendering with their existing idle workstation using Autodesk's Backburner Tool. We fulfilled our customer's request in an effective way.

Conclusion

When the customer approached us for cost and resource-effective solutions, we helped them to achieve the same with hands-on implementation guidance which made our customer-reseller relationship unique.
