The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) is the primary executive state agency responsible for development of Turkey’s overall water and relevant land resources in a sustainable manner. DSİ works under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. They needed consulting on Hydraulic works for pond and flood topics and reached out to our team here at PROTA to help them.
We decided to organize two advanced training and consultancy sessions to teach PROTA how to use Autodesk solutions for pond and flood topics. After these trainings, we were going to follow up with DSi, visit their institution at frequent intervals and consult on the projects they made.
PROTA demonstrated and explained how to: 1. Use Autodesk Civil 3D for pond design with examples on stage storage, body material calculation and cut off excavation design 2. Use Autodesk Subassembly Composer and gave tips for creating typical cross sections of concrete, RCC and clay core dams 2. Plan, project and control tides with the River and Flood Analysis module for flood control for both the current terrain conditions and designed channel with the help of corridor modeling
PROTA provided Administration engineers with raw Civil 3D .dwg files after the course and they have now designed some dam and pond planing projects themselves. Our courses provided them with all the knowledge they needed to create and make decisions. They reported that a single project to analyse the flood control process currently takes only a couple of hours instead of 2-3 days previously.
Before the availability of the River and Flood Analysis module of Autodesk Civil 3D, companies were delivering .dwg files which they had designed manually according to hydraulic values. Administration engineers can now import their original Hec-Ras’s .prj files to their .dwg files to make flood analysis faster and more precise. We were able make an impact within this industry by turning our knowledge into several case studies that were presented to engineers of other regional directorates.
