The complex nature of the KIPIC Al-Zour Oil Refinery Project called for the right technology to solve the previously encountered challenges. Al Ahlia needed to develop an ecosystem that supports multi-disciplinary teams. Hence, we deployed the complete Autodesk AEC Collection prior to the project so that the software could provide the designers, engineers, and contractors a set of BIM and CAD tools that supported the projects from early stage design through to construction.

Project goals

Al Ahlia had to undertake 3D modelling of a huge oil and refinery plant project in Kuwait. The KIPIC Al-Zour Oil Refinery Project was very critical for Al Ahlia and with a timeline of 30 days the firm had to speed up design processes with improved quality and integrated workflows for conceptual design, modeling and construction documentation.

Solution

Al Ahlia worked closely with Omnix to implement the Autodesk AEC Collection software. The initial core collection included Revit, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Navisworks Manage and 3ds Max. Together, they developed a plan for installing and configuring the software, importing data from the old system, and training users. Over a few weeks, Al Ahlia completed the initial, more intensive phase of the process which encompassed getting everything configured and ready to use.

Business outcome

With over 500 workforce team members from architecture and structural engineering working together during the design and reconstruction process, collaboration was paramount for the KIPIC Al-Zour Oil Refinery Project's success. The AEC Collection helped Al Ahlia with generative design, additive manufacturing to reduce waste, part consolidation for material productivity and production efficiency.
