Customer challenge

Yasser Al Beltagy Architects (YBA) was established in the year 1995, in Cairo, Egypt, Led by founder, principal and chief designer Yasser AL-Beltagy. YBA is a full-service architecture, urban, landscape and interior design firm. Over the years Yasser Al Beltagy Architects worked on different types and sizes of projects, in and out of Egypt more than 1000, projects such as Residential, Public, Corporate & Office buildings, Educational & Cultural projects, Hotels & Resorts, Recreational projects, Industrial projects, Religious and Commercial Projects.

YBA Participated in 33 worldwide competitions, wining; 10 first place prizes, 4 second place prizes, 3 third place prizes, 2 honorable mentions and was awarded 3 architecture awards. In June 2003 YBA and Dar Almimar joined alliances until February 2011. The merging of the firms, coupled with the extensive experience of the principals, creating a diversified practice resulting in successful broad range projects including worldwide competitions and large projects. YBA's philosophy is largely based on following the highest standards of ethics and business conduct. "We assume our client's privacy and provide them with the best services". The guidelines placed for achieving that philosophy are * Satisfactory Design for our Clients * Vision and Innovation * Enlightenment and Technology * Investing in People.

Project goals

As a disconnected workflow - YBA was taking too much time in editing the changes requested from their client and their impact on the project data through 3D shots, Technical Drawings and BOQ.

YBA has addressed that issue and figured out that connected workflow using BIM technology and the power of the connected workflow will reduce the time and gets the technical team, Design team and the visualization team are aligned on the same line.

Therefore, three goals were defined as below:

  • Reduce time by 20% in generating 3D shots.
  • Reduce Rework by 20% in the technical drawings & BOQ.
  • Reduce time by 10% taken in applying design modification and its impact on 3D rendered shots.

Solution

With connected BIM workflow - the design team starting the design in Autodesk Revit, then they send this model to the visualization team to start exporting some shots to get client approval once they had the approval then the technical team will start by develop the model and increase the level of details to start in producing Technical drawings and BOQ, at this moment some changes may happens due to technical issues, as-built condition, client request changes to reduce the construction cost, the time impact of these changes in the connected workflow will be reduced on the technical side or in the visualization side.

The model is now updated with any modification requested from the client, the visualization team will take this updated model and generate the shots without any modeling modification which reduce the time that taken in the rework. even if the exported visualization media is a video, now with twin motion they have the model updated all they need to do is to adjust lighting and make some modification in the environment then render. All this process previously was taking too much time to in the modification that will be made separately in the design team, technical team and Visualization team to get the final result accurate and fast as much as possible.

Business outcome

Since they become faster in their production, the increased freedom they now have for design and production has allowed YBA to be much more open to advancement. As they are able to work on several projects at once, they now have been able to increase their business.

Conclusion

Businesses should invest in cutting-edge design and marketing solutions to easily reach out to new customers. Furthermore, rendering and animation technologies make it easier for existing clients to evaluate their products and submit correction requests without incurring significant additional costs. As a result, BIM connected work flow has an impact on every area of production, including time, money, flexibility, and the avoidance of costly mistakes.

Talaat Moustafa Group (TMG) Holding is a leading conglomerate with special emphasis on developing integrated communities, including but not limited to mixed-use real estate and hospitality projects across Egypt’s key cities, with a land bank of 53 million square meters. The group has a strong track record of 50 years in the housing and real-estate development industry, having developed over 33 million sqm of land and sold over 90,000 units. TMG had an issue in centralizing all project data in one place. So, Autodesk BIM 360 Docs plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing all project data in a single source of Truth (SSOT). moreover, all letters between contractors and consultant were managed manually via emails, hard copy letter or using WhatsApp application.
