Success Story

Compressor Engine & Engineering - Design to CAM using a CDE

Compressor Engine & Engineering - Design to CAM using a CDE

Customer challenge

Compressor and Engine Engineering, a Locomotive compressor repair company, used to rely on Autodesk Inventor for 3D design and manufacturing requirements. Due to the more basic nature of 3D models and drawings required, the decision was made to explore alternate software options.

Having 2 draftsmen, it was also costly to have 2 licences for inventor. We also required a CDE

(common data environment) that received, and stored and protected all our data, and allowed

access from anywhere, allowing draftsmen to streamline processes, keep track of versions and simplify drawing controls.

Project goals

The outcome of this project that Modena OneSolve needed to execute deliverables against was simplified into the following simple goals:

1) Migrate our data and software functionality from Autodesk Inventor to Autodesk Fusion.

2) Improve trackability and control on drawings and revisions.

3) Build easily accessible database, from anywhere, anytime.

4) Integrate CAM software to reduce programming time and scrap (waste manufacturing material).

Solution

Compressor and Engine Engineering implemented Autodesk Fusion and the secondary CAM

software (Autodesk Fusion for Manufacturing) to reduce costs and bring the software requirements in line with what is beneficial to the company. Fusion’s design capabilities combined with the integration of the CAM modules allowed the company to visualize the full scope of projects, from 3D components, to assemblies, to manufacture drawings and onto the CAM process streamlining and saving time and costs. Autodesk Fusion's online data storage also allows the draftsmen to work from anywhere without fear of incorrect versions being used or not having access to data.

Business outcome

By implementing Autodesk Fusion and Autodesk Fusion for Manufacturing, Compressor and Engine Engineering has now significantly increased control over versions, revisions, old data, ability to work off site and streamlining the manufacturing process with the CAM modules, enabling a more simplified design and engineering to CAM process, with reduced wastage and increased productivity as well as reduced costs all round.

Conclusion

Migrating from Autodesk Inventor to Autodesk Fusion was not a big challenge from a skills perspective due to the programs being so similar. The challenges experienced however, comes from trying to edit existing inventor files (IDW for example). However, with time and ongoing support from Modena OneSolve, this challenge will be overcome and does not take away from any of the benefits we have experienced thus far of Autodesk Fusion's features and our belief that this platform is indeed the correct solution for the company.

With the help of Modena OneSolve assisting us in transitioning from Autodesk Inventor to Autodesk Fusion, the process has been smooth and efficient. They guided us from the initial discovery session, where their sales and technical teams took the time to understand our needs, through to answering all our questions and explaining Autodesk Fusion’s capabilities clearly. Their team also provided excellent training for Autodesk Fusion Fundamentals as well as Autodesk Fusion CAM Workshop & Implementation that empowered us to fully utilize the software. We are grateful for the outstanding service and support from Modena OneSolve.

K/M2K Saves 2 Hours of Work per Design Review through Better Remote Teamwork with Autodesk BIM360

During the Covid-19 Pandemic of 2020, K/M2K Architecture and Interior Design found themselves struggling to navigate remote working during a national lockdown. Traditional methods of file sharing were found inefficient and lacking for a team that needed to communicate a lot of information at a high frequency.

From 2D AutoCAD to Intelligent iLogic-driven 3D Inventor Designs

Palian was using 2D AutoCAD in a primarily 3D dominated field, struggling with collaboration between branches and the length of time it would take to make relatively small changes to designs. Getting drawings and quantities to the sales team for quotation purposes took longer than desired and a lot of manual user calculations and input was still needed, which increased the change of costly "human error" mistakes.

DRA Global takes on Project Delays with Innovative use of Technology

DRA Global had to overcome a delay of 25 days over deadline for their Sierra Leone Project, so they needed to find a way to get that time back to avoid running over with this project. The impact of this was on their future expansion projects within the same mine, in Sierra Leone, which would be double the size of the original project.
