Strategic Shift to BIM Methodology for Enhanced Competitiveness

ELVIAL S.A. is one of the largest and most well-known aluminium (aluminum) extrusion industries in Greece. It produces integrated aluminium systems in a fully vertically integrated production line housed in a new, state-of-the-art plant in Kilkis, Northern Greece.ELVIAL S.A. 's aluminium systems are certified from world known international institutes (Ift-Rosenheim, Germany), as well as acknowledged Greek certification bodies (Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki, Greece).The company has consistently focused on improving its products and services to remain competitive both in the Greek and international markets. Until recently, ELVIAL relied on Autodesk Solidworks and AutoCAD as its primary tool for designing its profiles and products, consistently offering AutoCAD drawings to its customers.

Transition to Autodesk BIM Solutions

Established in 1987, ENOIA SA is a multi-disciplinary engineering  and project development consultancy company with a proven track record of over 35 years in engineering excellence. The Group’s global network includes engineering excellence centers in Athens, Cairo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Chennai, providing a comprehensive range of services in diverse markets and industries in the fields of Energy, Water/Infrastructure and Industrial.AutoCAD was the main design software for the architecture and civil engineering department of the company in Greece. However, the need to collaborate with other departments within the company that had already adopted 3d modelling processes in design, combined with the global trend of modernizing projects using BIM and the mandatory application of these processes, confirmed the necessity of upgrading the staff's knowledge and adapting working methods to the new and challenging conditions.

Shifting from CAD to BIM

Alstom SA is a French multinational rolling stock manufacturer operating worldwide in rail transport markets, active in the fields of passenger transportation, signaling, and locomotives.  Alstom as part of a joint venture will provide rolling stock and signaling and infrastructure solutions, alongside 20 fully automated 4-wagon trains, the state-of-the-art CBTC Urbalis 400 solution, Iconis safety and control systems, and the Hesop energy saving system for the first section of The Athens Metro Line 4. AML4 is the first public project ever in Greece to use BIM technology and Alstom is driving this forward.AutoCAD was the main design software of the company in Greece. However, the radical development of projects with BIM procedures and the obligation to use BIM procedures, deemed essential the upgrade of the knowledge of the company's working groups and the adaptation of their working methods to the new challenging conditions. Shifting the tool from 2D drawings, to 3D models, which enable remote collaboration and model sharing, was identified as the key capabilities needed for such a project. As a result, Autodesk Revit was chosen as the most appropriate solution for the transition to the new working methods and the fulfillment of immediate and future demands of the company. OIONEI took over to upskill the personnel with their specialized training for Autodesk Revit including appropriate guidance to effective workflows.
