In an ever-changing construction landscape and the time frames across the world for construction projects big or small becoming faster and faster, we as BIM Authors, are pushed to the limits to perform in getting information issued timeously. Our client, BBEnergy, faced the challenge of having accurate information readily available across all disciplines involved in the project and the project fast track ability. This is where Autodesk and the tools within the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering & Construction Package was immensely useful and aided our team to collaborate seamlessly.
York Bros Construction had five key goals in mind and one of it is to capture all current data available from paper trails, Autodesk AutoCAD information and other digital tools such as excel, PDF manufacturers data sheets etc. Next would be to produce a digital model using Autodesk Revit to illustrate the existing site conditions and progress to design – first draft of all 3D elements showcasing the site influenced conditions to consider and first impressions of engineer’s designs. In addition to that, is to identify areas that could be problematic for installation sequence and advise on spatial requirements. Not to mention, construction Documentation and Project planning using Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Navisworks. Lastly, as built information package including the digital handover for maintenance and Facilities Management.
Autodesk software packages are tailored to suite each industry that may require some powerful stuff. In our case, across the team, we were privileged enough to have the civil engineer working on his side with Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D and our team have the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering & Construction collection and integration was seamless. York Bros Construction, as a collective, used Revit to model up every element with a 5mm tolerance that resulted in realistic machinery with all systems created within the Revit models. This assisted the engineering team to make critical decisions timeously resulting in the project overall cost to decrease. This was the first win for us on this project, using Autodesk products.

The critical design was adapted to the whole team and the final design adjustments were made with zero clashes achieved in a short period of time allowing the team to start with a reverse engineering approach. York Bros Construction have been advocates for Autodesk Navisworks and this was used for the next phase. Autodesk Navisworks assisted with the final clash detections and construction basis planning.
