Visionary Architecture Aces Large-Scale Projects through Utilizing Design and Collaboration Tools from Autodesk

Visionary Architecture Aces Large-Scale Projects through Utilizing Design and Collaboration Tools from Autodesk

Customer challenge

Visionary Architecture, Inc. also known as VISIONARCH, is one of Philippines top architectural companies, which has been recognized by BCI Asia as one of the top 10 architectural firms  for the last decade. The company has also ranked 71st biggest in the world, according to the prestigious World Architecture Top 100.

They were formerly known as G&W on 1970 and later changed their name to VISIONARCH in 2021. The team at VISIONARCH is composed of around 180 architects and specialty professionals who design structures that touch the full spectrum of life experience -professional, social, community, family, recreation, learning and exploration amongst other aspects.

The firm delivers a wide range of projects from residential condominiums, corporate offices, shopping malls, township developments and even high-tech industrial projects.

One of their main barriers is the difficulty in coordinating constant changes that occur during the design and construction process among their team of design experts, engineering consultants and key stakeholders. With the availability of Autodesk software, they were able to communicate better with other teams involved in their design projects, improve turnaround time and make necessary adjustments faster.

Project goals

Precision and accuracy are foundational to the tools that they use. One of VISIONARCH’s most notable projects is ONE AYALA, a transit-oriented and mixed used development located in the Philippines’ financial capital. It’s a shopping mall complex integrated with some transport nodes including PUV terminals and train stations.  A hotel, office and service residential components are all integrated into the development.

Due to its complexity, the project was done in BIM LOD400. “Autodesk software was invaluable to the execution of this complicated undertaking as we had to deal with several engineering trades of different project typology all being intertwined in one development. Different stakeholders also had to ensure that their vital requirements were being met, Autodesk BIM software played an important role to communicate all these.”, said Daniel Terrence Yu, President and CEO of VISIONARCH.

With the accurate drawings produced in Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Navisworks Manage, they were able to work efficiently in the early design phase and have an accurate baseline for feasibility studies, quantity take offs, and construction execution strategies.

Solution

Autodesk solutions such as Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Navisworks and Autodesk 3ds Max, have a team-based approach which enables them to work on large scale projects as a team simultaneously. “All the team members have a better view of the whole project to identify what needs to be done”, said Yu.

Though revisions need to be addressed during the design process, Autodesk tools have made it easier for their team to move around and analyze the models as if the project has already been built, aiding in clearer understanding of the development by the team and its stakeholders. This  ability helps prevent costly revisions due to miscommunication.

The environmental simulations and realistic rendering capabilities of Autodesk tools on the other hand, also helped VISIONARCH better visualize their designs. Autodesk solutions have helped their team in the design optimization of key façade strategies, maximizing daylight & mitigating solar heat gain through solar & shading analysis resulting in lower energy costs and sustainability.

Business outcome

Autodesk addresses the gap between the technicalities that lie on design and construction and clear communication between project stakeholders.

“Technology and innovation in software helped VISIONARCH communicate new ideas to a big team. This enables different stakeholders to contribute ideas to the conversation that ultimately helps ensure that all facets of the project have been addressed.” added Yu.

Moreover, the accessibility of Autodesk tools helped them adjust efficiently in the demand for remote setup brought by the pandemic. They were able to still deliver projects within schedule and with a high level of efficiency.

Additionally, the intuitive and easy-to-learn solution environment made it easy to train new team members and speedup their production processes, saving on training costs.

From conceptualization, design, construction and operations, Autodesk has been a vital tool to ensure the smooth execution of all their projects.

Conclusion

With the new trends that continuously emerge in the architecture space, VISIONARCH is sure not to be left behind. Their life-centric approach in design is what makes them stand out from the tough competition. Through focusing on their mission to design structures that promote  balance between, form, function and life, they are able to give back to the community they live in.

Autodesk solutions have continuously helped their team in fulfilling their ultimate goal. The capabilities of  Autodesk tools match the level of dedication and sophistication they bring into all their projects. The comprehensive tools within the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering & Construction collection continue to empower them to be proficient in executing their vision and ideas as well as the varying requirements of their clientele.

Having established strong partnerships with large development companies and completed more than 1000 projects, VISIONARCH is confident that they are 100% prepared and equipped to win all the opportunities in store for their team.

MEP Philippines Eyes BIM Transformation

Early on, the MEP Philippines began to realise the cumbersome nature of traditional 2D drawings, which, while easy to produce, gave an incomplete picture of the construction. They also had a traditional workflow where they had to send the model to the client for viewing, which was not the most efficient way to collaborate. These are some of the main reasons that led to the company-wide transformation of BIM.

EEI Corporation is recognized as one of the leading construction companies in the Philippines, known for the quality of its work and the excellence of its workforce. It has the broadest range of construction and engineering services, with expertise in the construction of large-scale heavy and light industrial projects, infrastructure, and property development projects all over the world.Over the years, EEI has built several power plants, refineries, petrochemical plants, cement plants, mining facilities, industrial plants, buildings, schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, seaports, airports, railways, water distribution stations, flood control systems, steel structures and modular assemblies.EEI Corporation is recognized as one the Philippines’ leading general contractors, but even they have not been spared the challenges posed by the pandemic. As EEI’s personnel started working from home, it was fortunate that EEI began using digital communication and collaboration even before the pandemic, as an alternative to traditional collaboration around printed engineering drawings.

Autodesk Helps Saycon Win Major Local and International Design and Construction Projects

Strength isn’t always in numbers. Established in 2002, Saycon Ventures, a small but very capable design and construction firm has been creating waves not only in the local AEC scene, but internationally as well. The twenty year old firm specializes in the design and construction of vertical structures such as commercial and residential buildings and industrial structures, which are mostly plant designs for international manufacturing companies located in Korea, Thailand, Austria and Germany. Previously, Saycon lagged behind their deadlines due to the inefficiency of their design tools, which led to delays in other aspects of their workflows especially in detailing, model enhancement and visualization. Every aspect of their design process was improved when they started subscribing to Autodesk.
