Customer challenge

As with any project including multiple stakeholders, with team members that are new or pulled in from various organizations, communication posed the greatest challenge. Initially, United Singapore Builders (USB) worked semi-independently which resulted in Autodesk Revit models residing in various locations, like the server and individual modeler’s computer, creating silos of information. In some cases, drawings and BIM models were shared via emails and other third party applications.

Project goals

Solution

In December 2019, USB engaged the services of CSG Software Pte Ltd, a Gold partner for Autodesk in Singapore. After evaluating the “project health”, CSG proposed a combination of Autodesk products and CSG services that included: 1) Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) Industry Collection 2) AutoCAD LT 3) BIM 360 Design 4) Training 5) Consulting and hand-holding sessions

Business outcome

Significant business outcomes included the following: 1) Project errors were reduced with minimized confusion among stakeholders. 2) Project errors, due to team members working on different versions of drawings, were quickly eliminated - now everyone knows where the latest set of project files reside. 3) Work from anywhere: With the COVID-19 pandemic, working from home became the new normal. With BIM 360, USB was still able to work and maintain coordinated information real-time.

Conclusion

Team productivity was greatly improved. Too much time was previously spent on resolving clashes as there was no real-time access to the latest version of the project files. With the implemented BIM 360 Design plus proper processes and workflows, USB can now spend less time coordinating and more time designing. USB now has a centralized data location to manage BIM models in a more coordinated and collaborative way.
