Sharpe Engineering Utilised a Customised Vault Setup that Increased Drawing Quality and Decreased Manufacturing Errors

Sharpe Engineering Utilised a Customised Vault Setup that Increased Drawing Quality and Decreased Manufacturing Errors

Customer challenge

Sharpe Engineering is providing quality driven engineering and manufacturing solutions since 1995. They were struggling with document and revision control which led to reoccurring jobs getting redrafted, engineered and programmed every time. Parts had been made off the incorrect revisions. These challenges were caused from drawings and programs being stored against job numbers so that the previous job would have to be found with a reoccurring job, adding to time and increasing room for error.

Project goals

Sharpe Engineering required a solution that: 1. Prevented the circulation of out of date and obsolete drawings and documents 2. Provided a secure and centralized location to store all engineering data across all three sites 3. Automated some of the document control process 4. Standardized part numbers and names

Solution

Our team at A2K Technologies and Tentech developed a customized Autodesk Vault setup that had two custom lifecycles with automated generation of watermarked PDF’s and STP files at different lifecycle stages, a customized drop down menu for naming parts with pre-filled details for parts that Sharpe Engineering had previously made, and a cloud-based server to hold engineering data and store licences.

Business outcome

As a result of the customized Autodesk Vault implementation, Sharpe Engineering noticed: 1. Better drawing quality from increased control and review of documents 2. A reduction in manufacturing error from incorrect revisions due to the enforced revision control 3. A reduction in time to complete reoccurring jobs 4. The ability to quote reoccurring jobs from part numbers, making it easier for the estimating team to complete their work

Conclusion

Our solution developed for Sharpe Engineering was a tailored software solution to meet their needs. Customized touches such as custom drop-down menus formatted to include company logos and text fonts made the user experience feel unique and well finished. The user interface for Autodesk Vault was easy and intuitive for their staff to use.

Designing Functional Industrial and Commercial Products with Accuracy using Autodesk Inventor

The initial challenge is to design with accuracy using Autodesk Inventor while being fully functional. Design for manufacture and testability are crucial aspects of the design process - while most understand design for manufacturing, many overlook the need of design for testability. Design for testability means that the designer knows how to test that a product is optimally functional - to be able to prove through testing, during the manufacture and assembly process, that every component is maximally effective and fully complies with the specifications. Design for testability and strict quality control are a standard part of ARIDs design process, ensuring that each unit produced is of the highest standard.

How Revit Streamlined the Workflow for the Westminster School Learning Hubs Multistage Project

Working with the Westminster School’s approach to teaching and learning, the shape, layout and relationships between spaces became more complex when compared to the traditional design of learning spaces. This meant that coordination within the Design Team was important and being able to explore and refine ideas through a 3D medium meant we could be assured that our outcomes would be cohesive for the interior and exterior of the building and aligned with the school’s pedagogical practices.

COSTCO – New Zealand’s Largest Bulk Retail Facility

MSC was tasked with the design and construction of a large and complex structure - New Zealand’s largest bulk retail site, a multi-level facility built over unstable ground. Site characteristics include a car park level and fuel station on-site. The structure includes three levels – 1 car park level and 2 shopping levels approximately 40,000 sq/m.
