Overcome the Covid Pandemic with Autodesk PowerMill

Overcome the Covid Pandemic with Autodesk PowerMill

Customer challenge

During the Covid pandemic that required quarantine, the whole economic and country border restrictions impacted any vendor that came from other countries as they could not visit and deploy their service.  This became a big challenge for every company.

The situation in A Chau Engineering is that they have a vendor for operating multi-axis machines to perform their trimming process for bike helmets, and they perform not only running the machine, calibrating the axis, but also the programming with very complex parts. All the complex tasks are performed by experts from vendors and A Chau cannot control when the border is closed and nobody can visit.  This is especially challenging during the high season near Tet holidays which is the time that sales peak. There is no other vendor that has the technology and the people to perform those tasks and it stops the entire process to make bike helmets as trimming case shells is in the middle stage and without it no helmet can be delivered.

Project goals

The primary goals for the project included the following:

  1. Get the complete production process back working effectively.
  2. Keep producing products ready for market during the upcoming high season.
  3. Control the technology and train users that can perform the critical processes without any vendor required.

Solution

Autodesk Solution Provider OneCAD Viet Nam not only supplied PowerMill software but also dedicated training for A Chau Engineering’s engineers. But the biggest need is how and when production can be back on track as soon as possible.  Tachieve that milestone, they needed the trimming machine to work and cut the coming products back for the line to get back on production.

OneCAD’s expertise helps customers with programming the NC for machining to cut 5-axis movements with the highest quality of cutting edges.  Everything could then get back on track in only 2 weeks.

Then the stage of implementation delivered by OneCAD to get A Chau’s Engineering up and running was conducted successfully with the knowledge we have learned from real products of A Chau Engineering.  As a result, OneCAD was quickly able to get all engineers onboarded successfully.

Business outcome

Using advanced CAM software like PowerMill is not just about the quality of toolpaths or how easy the solution is to use. The services that OneCAD provides for our customers complements the technology by ensuring the implementation process is always top-notch across the industry.

Conclusion

The PowerMill implementation enabled a reduction in CAM programming times with super fast toolpath calculations.  The solution also makes it simple to program large molds, tools and dies, and other challenging 3D geometry. As a result, being the first vendor to deliver products to the market becomes more possible.

Tackle Complex Surfaces with Autodesk PowerMill Advanced Toolpaths

Kenstone was dealing with complex shapes for their jigs and fixtures to support assembly. The existing CAM solution that the customer is using cannot fulfill the need for a solution to tackle complex shapes and quickly generate toolpaths for CNC machines. Dealing with numerous parts that needed to be machined required a shortened lead time for programming and machining. Especially the complex shapes must be in good surface quality. Autodesk PowerMill was identified to likely be the best solution that solved both the important time and quality need. Moreover, the possibility of automated programming will be a big advantage to achieve more production.

Artistic Die Components Quality Achieved with Autodesk PowerMill

In the first stage of establishing their manufacturing facilities, the Marigot Manufacturing Manager is looking for a comprehensive CAM Solution with the best support to assist with onboarding new staff and new machines with an efficient workflow. The challenge is that their products are very complex as the shape for the artistic jewelry, watches and decoration components are small in size. Implementation is vital, especially new staff who need specific training to get used to the solution and the shape of the part. OneCAD Vietnam approached Marigot and took on the challenge very seriously by helping with CAM programming on their parts and supervising the machining to make sure they understood the best process and cutting parameters for hardened material like SKD.

From Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection to Advanced CAM Solution

A long-time user of the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection (PDMC), Autodesk has given the ASAMA Team a comprehensive toolset to address their design and manufacturing challenges. For example, from drawing 2D to 3D models to great rendering tools for marketing the product even before the actual product is manufactured. There are no questions about the value received from the Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection, but for a market that evolves very fast and demand of customers is very high, ASAMA recognized the need to implement even more advanced manufacturing solutions including PowerMill. Autodesk PowerMill is world famous for its dedicated strategies, high finishing quality and time savings in the actual machining process.
