Lastratech in Utilizing Multiple Product Design & Manufacturing Tools

Customer challenge

Lastratech is a micro company that provides standard and customer specific systems for fluid transfer and other equipment in processing industry. Their portfolio covers products from small and mobile pumping systems to large fluid processing machines which are designed and managed with Autodesk software. Company is a long-time user of Autodesk software tools, starting with Autodesk AutoCAD LT, Autodesk Mechanical desktop and now Autodesk Inventor. Autodesk Inventor has been their main software tool for design, simulation, and visualization of the products for quite some time. With transition to Product design and manufacturing collection they discovered new software solutions that could optimize their workflow.

Project goals

With the availability of new tools from the Product design and manufacturing collection the customer with cooperation with us decided to improve or change the following areas: - implement Autodesk Vault data management solution to simplify data re-use and shorten product to market time - replace competitive CAM solution with Autodesk Inventor CAM software

Solution

Based on our consulting the customer decided to move all their CAD data from different locations to the Autodesk Vault. We implemented Autodesk Vault data management solution and trained them to successfully utilize it. The second part was transition from competitive CAM package to Autodesk Inventor CAM. Autodesk Inventor CAM training and specific CNC post-processor modifications for their machines were done by us.

Business outcome

Moving all the CAD data previously stored on different computers and network shares to a Autodesk Vault database made finding and reusing their existing data much easier. Also creating data backups is now an automated background process. Transition to Autodesk Inventor CAM which is a part of the Product design and manufacturing collection lowered customer's software costs because they could get rid of a costly competitive CAM package. Also, the Autodesk CAD to CAM workflow is now simplified because everything runs in the same environment.

Conclusion

Tight connection between the customer and us as an Autodesk reseller results in customer being aware of continuous Autodesk software advancements. In this case company owner’s vision of constant progress and desire to invest in utilizing new and better tools made their design process shorter and less prone to errors. Transitioning to use the software tools from one software collection from one vendor lowers company’s costs of software and makes upgrading and staying up to date with the software much easier.

Riko Ekos using Inventor with automatization to speed up design of waste management solutions

Riko Ekos d.o.o., founded in 1993 and based in Slovenia, specializes in design and manufacture of comprehensive waste management solutions. The company employs about 50 people, who with their knowledge, work and experiences primarily take care of quality production of systems for complete waste management solutions, whether for separately collected fractions, municipal waste or industrial waste. In addition to this, they continue with the production and sale of reliable winter equipment for already 20 years and market it since 2014 under the new brand name Wintec.Their workflow involves the creation of 3D models and 2D documentation using Autodesk Inventor. Within this process, they encountered two notable challenges: the creation of 2D drawings and the export of DXF flat patterns of sheet metal components intended for CNC cutters. The creation of drawings was extremely time consuming process because they had to manually create drawings for most of the parts used in their designs. Majority of the parts are sheet metal parts. Those parts are fabricated in-house using CNC machines which require DXF files as input. Creating and editing the DXF files also consumed too much of designers' time.Riko Ekos' main goal was to reduce the time that designers need to complete those time consuming and repetitive tasks.
