Success Story

Keltbray standardise on Autodesk Construction Cloud for Infrastructure Projects

Keltbray standardise on Autodesk Construction Cloud for Infrastructure Projects

Customer challenge

Keltbray is a leading UK specialist construction engineering and infrastructure solutions business. Keltbray’s infrastructure division delivers critical road and major highways infrastructure across the UK road network for UK Government agencies including National Highways and its delivery partners, and local authorities, often as part of major, complex mixed-use urban redevelopment schemes. The business is currently involved in the construction of some of the UK’s most prominent road infrastructure programmes

Keltbray’s Highways project delivery team were selected to pilot Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) to support the Tier 1 client requirements and Keltbray PMO Project Controls business integration strategy. The challenge was to evaluate the solution and prove that it can deliver projects effectively and efficiently, whilst providing a scalable digital platform that the wider Keltbray business can leverage to contribute toward the One Keltbray vision.

Project goals

By standardising on one digital platform for the end-to-end delivery of projects, Keltbray is seeking to integrate their current disparate operating units into ‘One Keltbray’ to support its vision for the future and to leverage its unique multidisciplinary position within the sector.

The goal was for Keltbray to carry out a robust system evaluation exercise of the ACC  platform to assess its suitability for use across the Infrastructure division, in the context of its construction activities Bleveraging the advantages of Autodesk Docs as a core common data environment, the field applications found in Autodesk Build and collaborative working within Autodesk BIM Collaborate, the team believed it could significantly enhance its digital project delivery workflows. Ensuring platform suitability and scalability whilst maintaining successful project delivery and profitability were the critical success criteria when evaluating the platform for use within Keltbray.

Solution

Keltbray procured ACC licenses on an unlimited project-based model and undertook a series of administration and user training tsupport the set-upconfiguration and evaluation of the platform. As it evaluated the platform, the Cadline Customer Success and Technical teams continued to provide guidance and support throughout the testing and adoption phases of the project.

As the Autodesk Construction Cloud is increasingly adopted across Keltbray teams and departments, Cadline continues to support project deployment and workflow enhancements The Customer Success team established a regular meeting cadence with the Keltbray implementation project team and continue to support project deployment and workflow enhancements, as well as providing on-demand access to their support team for day-to-day questions.

Currently the Cost module is being evaluated to provide added value to project teams by making project costs more visible throughout project lifecycle, contributing to successful project delivery, on time and on budget.

Business outcome

The introduction of the ACC platform enables Keltbray to realise a step change in operational efficiencies and create a more profitable and sustainable future. Having all workflows within ACC and underpinned by a single CDE, will enable Keltbray to standardise information management to comply with ISO 19650.

Some of the business outcomes achieved by adopting the platform include:

  • - Reduction in operational, design and project costs.

  • - Reduction and elimination of duplicate processes.

  • - Reduction in cost of operations through collaboration, productivity improvement, process efficiencies and innovation.

  • - Improved design collaboration processes to shorten construction and pre-construction lead times.

  • - Bringing the UN sustainability goals to life across the business, enabling Keltbray to find new, greener, and more innovative solutions to support customers.

  • - Disconnecting construction collaboration and delivery processes from internal Keltbray IT infrastructure and resources.

Conclusion

Having already implemented the solution across pockets of the Keltbray built environment division, the Highways division has committed to a full implementation of Autodesk Construction Cloud on significant projects and are investigating the implementation of the platform as a standard company wide solution.

Ultimately, Keltbray is working towards the widespread adoption of the Autodesk Construction Cloud as a single whole project lifecycle collaboration platform for construction project control and delivery.

Matt Nolson, Digital Delivery lead, continues to evaluate the platform across all sectors serviced by Keltbray and is working closely with Cadline Customer Success and Technical teams to further develop the solution to support the wider Keltbray connected digital and information strategy.

Optimising Visual Project Planning with Navisworks

Yara Technology and Projects (YTP) main focus is to develop Yara operations, support Yara's vision to feed the world and deliver roadmaps and projects towards climate-neutral solutions. With so many projects being worldwide, Yara needed to evaluate constructability issues that may arise during projects. Yara use Microsoft Project and Primavera to set up project schedules, material availability and often face the challenge of getting the required tools to remote locations.

Driving Innovation in Design and Engineering

Warren Services is a Norfolk-based family-run engineering and manufacturing business, employing 115 people across two sites. Its capabilities extend from dynamic head water jet® cutting; EDM wire eroding and laser profiling to computer numerical control (CNC) milling and turning, through fabrication and finishing and electrical assembly and testing. Warren Services is proud of its record of providing high-quality manufacturing of components and mechanical/electrical sub-assemblies to agreed schedules, offering turnkey solutions in engineering and design. Autodesk software has long played a key role in its processes and workflows. The company initially took the decision to self-learn and implement the technology itself, using its own internal resource but, over time, ongoing engagement with Autodesk Solution Provider, Cadline, has paid dividends in ensuring Warren Services gains optimum value from its investment.
