JFS Architectes Mastered BIM Collaborate During the Lockdown

JFS Architectes Mastered BIM Collaborate During the Lockdown

Customer challenge

JFS Architectes is an architectural practice based in Paris. After carrying out several major projects at Renzo Piano, Jean-François Schmit inaugurated JFS Architectes with his closest collaborators. Since 1985, the team has successfully carried out numerous projects and now specialises in various sectors, such as maintenance centres, office buildings, schools, residential housing, and cultural and sports facilities. Raimundo Lopez, Associate Architect and BIM Manager says: "We need to convince the client that not only does our project meet their basic needs, but that it is also the most attractive option available, whilst respecting financial constraints. I think achieving all of this is our main challenge today. While this is not a new challenge, today's major difference is communication for the architect. Through photorealistic images, 360° images and virtual reality."

Project goals

Raimundo Lopez continues: "We are happy to take on all sorts of buildings and a diverse set of projects. Some examples include an aircraft maintenance hall at an airport, a large railway site, and places where large crowds gather, such as a metro station in the heart of Paris and a school in an urban area that was given a complete renovation." "We are always on the lookout for changes in architecture's working and design practices. The existence of BIM Collaborate was known to me, but it was only in the presence of our employees at an Autodesk Conference that we perceived the true potential of this solution, especially thanks to its collaborative aspect for the rest of our partners. During the rollout of the 2019 version of Autodesk Revit, the multiple work possibilities that were now available to us, thanks to this platform, most impressed us."

Solution

JFS Architectes was already working with the Autodesk software package, and BIM Collaborate allowed for easier interoperability with other solutions. The links between BIM Collaborate and the rest of the Autodesk products have evolved to become more powerful with each new release. This has allowed the team to work and collaborate more effectively. Being able to upload models very quickly to the BIM Collaborate platform allowed the team to continue projects during the lockdown without having to worry about who is working face-to-face at the office and who is working from home. Raimundo Lopez continues: "We first started using BIM Collaborate during the lockdown, and this experience was limited to collaborative work between the different employees of the company. We had two projects in the PRO phase to deliver quickly, and the platform allowed us to finish on time."

Business outcome

As with any transition, it must be approached with full conviction but without trying to change everything too quickly. During the first year of using this platform under exceptional circumstances, the company realised that they haven't come close to the limits of its potential. They have the opportunity to complete a truly collaborative project from start to finish in tune with the rest of our public partners. They must undertake extensive training to make full use of this system. Few people have enough experience to work easily on the BIM Collaborate platform. For many, their solution is to opt for a more traditional working model with mockups hosted on their servers. "It is obvious that if we have to send each other the models each time changes are made to check and update, we will spend much more time going over things than we do now. Additionally, we do not have to separate the models for projects with another architectural firm." - Raimundo Lopez, JFS Architectes

Conclusion

"Our next step is to start a project using BIM Collaborate Pro, where all stakeholders are working on the platform. The objective is to go to the site and use the various tools at our disposal. The priority is to train stakeholders in the different phases of projects; this includes architects, engineers, landscapers, and even the project owner. By undertaking this training and offering more attractive prices, we will help roll out the BIM Collaborate Pro solution to a broader audience." - Raimundo Lopez, JFS Architectes

Graitec helps Visivo optimise Autodesk 3ds Max to deliver high-performance gym designs

Visivo is a 3D animation company specialising in 3D visualisations, fly-through animations, and virtual reality (VR) representations of gyms. Visivo’s work enables gym owners or franchisees to visualise their gym designs more clearly, especially during the pre-sale period of a new franchise opening. The company uses 3D computer graphics software from Autodesk to carry out this work. In doing so, it draws on training and support provided by Autodesk platinum partner, Graitec. To be successful, Visivo needs to showcase to gym owners and franchisees how their gym might look if various design options are taken. That process of experimentation is key in the earliest stages of design as a new gym takes shape, and it will also be instrumental in how the gym looks in the future.

Adoption of Automation to Reduce Time Spent on Design Tasks and Reduce Errors
