Expediating Communication with Autodesk DOCS

Expediating Communication with Autodesk DOCS

Customer challenge

Our strength lies within the team of experienced engineers and partners. Custom-built large equipment requires critical and careful conduct and protocol to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and safety before, during and even post-contract support services.

Our engineers are seasoned professionals who have been involved in various bridge projects worldwide. Similarly, our partners are experts in their own field, having overseen successful contracts in their own right. Over the years, our engineers have been using Autodesk AutoCAD for our design drafting for our equipment. We will receive design engineering and consultants design for our team to overlay as refences. We face road block and limitation practicing traditional and conventional way of sharing information. Progressive first approach to us was to introduce us with BIM and transformation from 2D to 3D. With the discovery session with us, Progressive understanding our business nature. Progressive team then introduces us the latest Autodesk AutoCAD version and how we can share information better.

Project goals

Our challenges using traditional workflow has limitation. We wanted to look for an affordable solution where our design mostly are develop mainly from overseas  stationed engineering team and fabrication. We have been searching for a solution platform that enable us have a fast and efficient flow where our local team are able to review and communicate fast and effectively. Our project timeframe involvement locally usually operates between three to six months with our customers. There are variety solution available, but they are either too advance with feature we do not use frequently and expensive beyond our expectation.

Solution

Progressive introduces that the newer version of Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk DOCS as a document management platform has features that we are seeking. Progressive introduces what they called accelerators and we agree to explore further with their team. They introduces Autodesk AutoCAD Collaboration feature to our team. Design engineer will use Autodesk AutoCAD for their drawing review and update. While management team were introduce with the use of freely available tools like Autodesk Design Review, DWG Trueview to review drawings received locally or from overseas team. Although we have yet to try out on our own with Autodesk online web viewers for our ease to access shared drawings with smart devices.

What we like was the introduction of the document management platform, the Autodesk DOCS. The specific feature in this platform such like document control and mark-ups, version tracking, and issue management have brought to our attention. Autodesk DOCS also coupled with the ability to connect to local servers for data sync from the cloud can ease our internal information technology management with minimal network knowledge.

The Autodesk AutoCAD 2023 Collaborate tool feature has shed some light to us. Without having Autodesk DOCS platform subscription, we have limitation to uploading actual large actual project data for now, but we do understand. Overall we like what we are seeing.

Business outcome

The Autodesk AutoCAD 2023 Collaborate tool feature has shed some light to us and are refining workflow towards our next project. Although without having Autodesk DOCS platform subscription at current level, we have limitation to uploading actual project large data for now, but we do understand. Overall we like what we are seeing and intend to add into our next project budgeting.

We see the possibility of ease to work closer and ease to communicate with our oversea team. The document management part to issue, markup and review is exactly what we wanted. The concept of having one single storage solution and the ability to access anywhere including the uses with smart mobile devices  and apps is essential and common nowadays.

We have plan to extend the newer workflows to our overseas team for ease of document management. The ability for project team to review and markup digitally coupled with version tracking, and notification is a plus to us. We are looking at saving more time and ease against the traditional review process.

Conclusion

Autodesk DOCS implementation and newer Autodesk AutoCAD version with collaboration feature into our workflow as the document management and review platform to our local team is positive. We have yet to refer and extend for sharing and communicate with our oversea team is something we are exploring and extending to them to consider.

We are positively and extend our appreciation to Progressive in highlighting newer workflow and technology to our team. We are in line with our management planning, and looking forward to implement the Autodesk DOCS as our document management platform for sharing, review and communicate in the upcoming project.

BIM Makes Effective Coordination

With a recent project with BIM requirement at construction stage, we are caught and were new to Building Information Modelling concept. Project principals requires the use of BIM tools for coordination purposes. It was a situation we have not anticipated before. Over the years, our design team are only using Autodesk AutoCAD for design and documentation. Autodesk 3DS Max for video walk-through with our customers. In BIM, different technology tools are required, and Progressive introduced us about Autodesk BIM and Autodesk Revit functionality. We did try-out Autodesk Revit and source the market for alternative solution. And we did finalize our decision with Autodesk Revit and the ease how Autodesk Revit can work with. The post- trainings and support we seek have given our team the confidence to work with Revit to develop our designs for the project.
