Success Story

Gleeds is a property and construction consultancy based out of the UK. Founded in 1885, the firm has worked on prestigious projects including the London 2012 Olympics and Crossrail. For the past several years, Gleeds has focused on digitisation and government policy that help build a more integrated and informed industry. As part of that initiative, Gleeds sought a partner that could help them move to a cloud environment for the BIM project lifecycle while implementing the latest BIM standards including ISO 19650. They intended to leverage these tools and workflows on four residential projects in one of London’s boroughs.
In seeking out a BIM Information Manager for the client project, Gleeds first wanted to migrate their project information to a common data environment (CDE). This platform would be utilized for model auditing and data verification, clash detection, and QA/QC geometrical and non-geometrical information. Microdesk was able to demonstrate the benefits of BIM 360 as a CDE whilst carrying out this Information Manager role, in order to support a range of project requirements including BIM documentation approval, BIM protocol assessment, verification software configuration and more.
Microdesk began the engagement by onboarding Autodesk BIM 360 to be utilized as the CDE due to its seamless integration with other Autodesk construction software and collaborative capabilities. In addition to BIM 360 implementation, Microdesk assisted with training and ongoing product support to ensure Gleeds and the consulting team would be able to fully leverage the powerful software. Microdesk also provided a BIM Information Manager and BIM Coordinator for the London Borough project. While the Information Manager focused on the BIM Execution Plan and meeting guidance, the BIM Coordinator maintained the master BIM model and confirmed all project data met the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), BIM ISO 19650 and other industry standards for design, construction, commissioning and ongoing maintenance. These roles would ensure a holistic project lifecycle resulting in an as-built model for simplified facility management and future renovations.
While the project support for the London Borough project is ongoing, BIM 360 has been adopted as the single source of truth for all Gleeds construction project information as part of this framework. Both the design and delivery teams are confident in their usage of the software, and decision makers now have ready access to geometrical and non-geometrical information. Further potential lies in other Gleeds teams adopting the similar platform and project set-up.
Microdesk will continue to work with Gleeds on this project through to late 2024, adding additional expertise and support as needed. Both the end client and Gleeds are exploring enterprise-wide software opportunities as well as further implementation of the Autodesk Construction Cloud.

Symetri Assists JLR to Convert 8 Clay Modellers into Competent Members of the Digital Modelling Team
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) needed to address the imbalance of skill sets within their modelling department without losing the investment in and the experience of the core team. The programme cycle and growth chart indicated that they had the right number of heads to sustain the projected workload but in the wrong disciplines. As the studio is becoming increasingly digital, the resource numbers needed to increase in the CAS team.
Symetri Leverages Accelerator Material for McLaren Resulting in Productivity Boost on Conceptual Design and Improved Cross Department Communications
Using the Alias Subdivision (Sub-D) Modeling Accelerator’s discovery session and engagement approach, Symetri was able to uncover that McLaren had critical challenges they needed to address: • As a result of the Pandemic, McLaren needed to figure out how to do more with their Alias Software with less people in the studio. • They wanted to become more productive leveraging the tools and processes already established in the studio. • Raise core competencies of the team and boost awareness of Alias full set of capabilities – including Subdivisional modeling • Better appreciation of the various modeling paradigms – how they work, what they do, and where they could fit into McLaren’s workflow • Increase prototyping output • Reduce time in the design phase
