Dasco implements a documented electronic ECO process based on Autodesk Vault

Dasco implements a documented electronic ECO process based on Autodesk Vault

Customer challenge

Dasco Storage Solutions is a company that specializes in storage for computers, weapons, media, gear, and more. After moving from a 2D CAD workflow to a 3D digital environment based on Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk iLogic and Autodesk Vault Professional in 2019, Dasco’s new challenge was to implement a documented electronic engineering change order (ECO) process to efficiently address product design issues or customer requests resulting in changes to a product.

Project goals

When contacting Graitec, Dasco’s goal was to find an efficient way to manage new product design details or proposed changes to existing products. This meant making sure that all work that ensued received proper approvals. Not to mentioned that information was communicated to all key stakeholders (including engineering, quality control. procurement, manufacturing, supply chain partners, etc.) in a timely manner. Lastly, changes were to be reflected in all related documents.

Solution

Redcage worked with Dasco on a discovery and implementation plan that would help manage product lifecycle through Autodesk Vault. Custom training was developed and rolled out for Dasco employees along with ongoing technical support. A video was also made.

Business outcome

Since initial deployment of Digital Prototyping environment in 2019, Dasco was able to reduce its design to production lead time by 33%. With a carefully crafted ECO, Dasco feels they are putting in place steppingstones to help get ready for an eventual ISO certification process.

Conclusion

Autodesk Vault Professional was already implemented at Dasco during the initial move from 2D to 3D design. By working with Graitec again, Dasco was able to accelerate an electronic engineering change order process that will allow them to continue their path to ISO accreditation.
