Success Story

CEMCON, Ltd. - Success in Moving Forward

CEMCON, Ltd. - Success in Moving Forward

Customer challenge

CEMCON, Ltd., incorporated in 1972, is a civil engineering consulting firm specializing in the planning, civil design, surveying, permitting and construction of private and public infrastructure and transportation systems. Our business model and focus on client service affords an efficient and integrated team approach that creates value at each project phase and has earned us the trust and confidence of developers, governmental agencies, and design/build clients.

The big problem CEMCON faced was using legacy software and the learning curve that users would have to go through in order to upgrade to Autodesk Civil 3D. Rollout timing had to be multi-phase to ensure that production on projects continued to get out the door at the pace their customers come to expect. A well thought out implementation/training plan was created and ultimately allowed CEMCON to succeed in this transition.

Project goals

Implementing the latest software has always been a goal of CEMCONs.  They saw their competition rolling out plans quicker and more efficiently and knew that if they were to maintain their market share, that they had to do something.  But they understood that there is a sharp learning curve coming from 20+ year old legacy software and had to figure out a way to stay productive, keep clients happy and ultimately succeed in the movement towards.

Solution

  • CEMCON is a new customer, having previously worked with other partners, CEMCON found the value and expertise in what ProSoft has to offer on the Civil Infrastructure side and chose to go with ProSoft as their preferred vendor for Autodesk products.
  • Based on the expertise ProSoft has in implementation Autodesk products, especially for Infrastructure customers, Cemcon ultimately decided it is to their best advantage to choose ProSoft as their preferred partner in upgrading their software/services.
  • They also considered other competitor products such as Bentley. Ultimately, at the end of the day ProSoft took the time to show the value that the Autodesk AEC Collection and Autodesk Civil 3D bring to the table and was able to knock the competition out.

Business outcome

CEMCON has been able to streamline their workflows by utilizing multiple products within the Autodesk AEC Collection.

Conclusion

With the initial training/template setup and rollout of key user training, CEMCON has continued to add seats to their Autodesk account and are continuously training additional users while providing a better product for their customers.  CEMCON understands that any major implementation is an ongoing project as new users, products and projects are always being looked at and looks forward to continuing their move towards a brighter future.

Changeover to a Single Software Platform

During the Business Process Assessment (BPA), we found that Hunt Electric had been struggling with multiple platforms to get their jobs completed. With many hours lost from rework and lost data going from multiple platforms to the other, they were looking for a solution to bring everyone on the design side to one design software platform.

BIM 360 Design for At Home Use During Covid-19 Pandemic

As things changed in our environments with Covid-19, Elliott Workgroup had a need to work from home. After a few weeks of remote access not working great, they remembered that we had discussions of the BIM 360 Platform in the past. Although they did not take advantage of it at the time, now would be the perfect time for them. Steven Bruemmer, Principal AIA at Elliott Workgroup, stated that he wished they had done it sooner.
