B-Architects: A complete switch to Revit and BIM because construction sector is evolving into more active collaboration

B-Architects: A complete switch to Revit and BIM because construction sector is evolving into more active collaboration

Customer challenge

B-architects are designers of sustainable buildings that enhance both the urban and the open space. They invest in innovative research, publish and debate, take their own initiatives and seize opportunities to push the boundaries of their profession. Due to the complexity of its designs B-architects was looking for an intelligent drawing tool. For a long time they worked with Autodesk AutoCAD, which in the 1990s made the step from hand-drawn to digital plans was. Especially with large projects, the problem always arises that modifications cost a lot of money. The removal of quantities from a model also takes up a lot of time.

Project goals

B-architecten was looking for a tool that would make it possible to go over a project with the client in a simple way and zoom in on certain details, which is often very complex with 2D drawings. The most important challenge for B-architecten was to exchange information faster with clients and other parties working on the same project.

Solution

B-architects currently works with 13 Autodesk Enterprise packages, allowing everyone has access to Autodesk Revit. Each partner can collaborate simultaneously on the same project at the same time, since everyone has the model and has the same information available. This is possible both at office or at home. With an extension to Autodesk BIM 360 Docs, this can even be done simultaneously with different construction partners and have real time information. The Autodesk software also gives the possibility to convert Autodesk Revit elements into DWG elements and in this way share classic DWG plans with contractors or other parties. Then, these are exported to classic plans such as PDF.

Business outcome

With Autodesk BIM, one can implement a large amount of information immediately into a 3D model. Not to mention that it is a sophisticated way to translate a design into plans. Floor plans, sections and facades are linked to each other, which allowing problems to be detected more quickly. This results in fewer mistakes are made on the building site and the quality quality of the work carried out. In Addition to that, information about the materials and techniques is processed as well, which makes a study about a design easier.

Conclusion

Thanks to Autodesk BIM, B-architects can now bid for large assignments and competitions that would otherwise not be feasible. For more and more clients, Autodesk BIM is a requirement, especially for government contracts and design & build assignments where the contractor and architect form one team. It is interesting for all parties to start a project in the same model. B-architects is happy to play a pioneering role in this. Autodesk BIM gives the possibility to quickly generate intermediate performances which is a great advantage. Because one has a 3D model at one's disposal, one can now also present complex complex projects quickly and clearly to all partners quickly and clearly.

Stugalux Construction: How to handle hundreds of projects with Autodesk BIM 360 Build

Within Stugalux, in the overall process of a project, 3 platforms were used: Microsoft Dynamics NAV (ERP), ELO (Document management) and a file server (File management). Exchanging plans between the different departments was done using PDF files. These were created from Autodesk Revit, saved on the file server and then put in the document management system ‘ELO’ via the ERP system ‘Microsoft Dynamics NAV’. This procedure was repeated for each new version of the Autodesk Revit project. At the end of a project, a multitude of PDF files for the different versions of the same project could be found in different environments. This could lead to communication errors during the project process and the use of the wrong versions of the plans by the technicians of the various departments.

Democo implements Autodesk Build

Democo is a construction company and contractor offering comprehensive solutions to other companies. We construct residential, commercial and industrial buildings and office spaces that provide added value to their surroundings and the people inside. Democo was looking for a way to better and more quickly inform the various partners about changes during the design and construction phase. Most of the construction partners are only optimized in their own work process as a result of which they cannot always share all the information with other parties in time. Also the communication is incomplete or through different technologies that are not attuned to each other. On top of that, a lot of information is stored on local hard drives or networks. These concerns also occurred between the different companies within the Democo Group. The interaction and exchange of information between the various divisions could be improved.
