Luso Cuanza´s customer Ana Bigio is a well known Portuguese Scientific Illustrator and 3D Artist that works with scientific 3D animation and needs to develop a specific simulation in a very short period of time. Her Autodesk Solutions (based on Maya) was working with a very recent Mac Pro Workstation and was not able to render their simulation in a reasonable time period. Ana Bigio asked for Luso Cuanza's assistance to help solve that workflow issue.
The primary project goal identified for Ana Bigio was to reduce the rendering time from 27 minutes per frame to as less time per frame as possible. Ana Bigio had to render something like 2 small animations with 900 frames each and the estimated time was nearly 16 days to render each animation.
Autodesk Solution Provider Luso Cuanza's Media & Entertainment Support Team has tested Autodesk Maya with their render farm and it has reduced the rendering time to 10 days for each block of 900 frames. Although this result was better, it was not good enough. So, our support team has to try a completely new approach. We have moved for a Workstation with Intel i9 CPU and Dual NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000. That hardware setup has allowed us to use the Arnold GPU render engine and we were able to offer Ana Bigio something like 57 seconds per frame and the chance to render 2 simultaneous frames. Ana Bigio was able to produce her 2 animations in about a week.
The technical support and consultation we have provided to Ana Bigio has allowed her to keep project deadlines, and have provided her with a new powerful workstation. The completed project enabled Ana Bigio with a scalable solution including continued optimized use of Autodesk Maya. Additionally, the customer signed a support contract in order to help her solve these and future rendering issues.
Ana Bigio now begins to highlight the cooperative process with Luso Cuanza that has allowed them to deliver her work on time and the benefits that the innovative solution is bringing to her new projects.
