3 Times Faster: As a Reaction to Demand for Laboratories During COVID

3 Times Faster: As a Reaction to Demand for Laboratories During COVID

Customer challenge

Klimaoprema, established in 1975 in Croatia, is an experienced and certified manufacturer of high-quality HVAC equipment and cleanroom technology as well as an engineering company providing turn-key projects in industries where the cleanroom is required (hospitals, laboratories, food technology, microelectronics, and more.) Turn-key solutions include project management with every project step from planning, design, procurement, production, execution (installation and construction) to final steps such as validation and maintenance. At the beginning of 2020, Klimaoprema had received an almost impossible task; to design and build a cleanroom facility in a very short time. The project would consist of over 3000 m2 of cleanroom space with complete HVAC system and equipment. Such complex projects usually take around 30 months to be completed. Klimaoprema was required to cut down the production and delivery time to 8 months only.

Project goals

1) Cut down lead time for the project from the usual 30 months to 8 months. 2) Increase efficiency cutting down design time. 3) Better communication between Klimaoprema and the client.

Solution

The first step of the project was to design the building architecture, the cleanrooms configuration and complete electrical and HVAC installations. These tasks were done in Revit enabling multiple teams, users to work simultaneously in single digital model. Once the design phase was completed, the project was handled in 3ds Max. This allowed designers to create customer facing visualization and provide a complete walkthrough animation. Detailed design and production data of cleanroom furniture and other equipment were done in Inventor in conjunction with Autodesk Vault that allows design and engineering offices and individuals to access projects parts and 3D models. Klimaoprema came to us for advice how they can have a better and faster communication between them and clients. After the analysis, we concluded that Navisworks Manage is the right solution. Now they can share their designs and integrate them daily to ensure that issues in the project design could be immediately addressed.

Business outcome

Although the project requirements posed many challenges, including management of a large number of vendors, subcontractors and stakeholders, the quality and accuracy of the delivered cleanrooms was never compromised. Efficient communication and collaboration on shared 3D models were critical. It meant that onsite installations of some parts could take place while other parts were still in the design phase. Design teams were also able to update and reconfigure some objects at very advanced stages of the project.

Conclusion

Klimaoprema will take advantage of the new experiences and learnings from this project and will continue to use Autodesk technology (for the next project ACC solutions) to achieve seamless workflow of all design and manufacturing processes to offer high quality products and maybe even shorter delivery times.

Implementation of FEA, Improvement of Work Processes and Collaboration

Navtec Marine d.o.o. is a private group of technical specialists, established in 1993, offering design and consulting services to ship and yacht owners and builders, working worldwide. Navtec Marine covers demands regarding various types of ships, yachts, and special structures like ships (tankers, containers, MPVs, etc.), yachts (including high speed craft) special structures/machines and offshore and special equipment design. The making of 3D models and technical documentation for the client is a very complex process because in the phase of development, testing and checking the ship's structure are extremely important and changes and revisions are very common. Optimization of the modeling process, testing of 3D models, preparation of technical documentation and cooperation with clients during the entire design phase are necessary for each project.

Preserving Cultural Heritage Through Digitalization

The Ministry of Culture and Media is the central body of the state administration, responsible for the improvement and development of culture. Digitalization and online availability of cultural heritage content of The Member States of the European Union contribute to economic growth and job creation. The Digital Agenda is one of the seven key initiatives of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth. In order to create the conditions for sustainable management of the process of digitization of cultural heritage, the Ministry envisaged the implementation of the eKultura project – digitization of cultural heritage at the national level. As a part of the digitalization agenda, there was need to implement CAD and BIM methodologies and workflows through close cooperation with Communiter Ad Decus d.o.o. (CAD d.o.o.) as an Autodesk Solution Provider Partner for the implementation and support required for success.
