Description

This class will cover the combination of AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Revit software, AutoCAD Plant 3D software, and reality computing. Years of practice with 3D scanning and 3D modeling in the oil and gas industry have yielded applicable workflows and submittal products for building. The challenges of working in the petrochemical field have helped identify pitfalls that we can now avoid in today's reality capture and Building Information Modeling (BIM) construction tasks. This class will show that the capture of the data is not what's important; the Reality Solutions that are created from the data are what provide the most value.

Key Learnings

  • Learn about timing, accuracy, and collaboration with virtual design construction, virtual as-built catalogs, and asset management foundations
  • Learn how to combine AutoCAD Civil 3D software, Revit software, and AutoCAD Plant 3D software into a Reality Computing Solution that offers real-time value
  • Learn about laser scanning methods involving accurate survey networks and repeatable results
  • Discover what submittals the point-cloud data can yield when you think outside the box

Sean Finn is a partner of F3 & Associates, Inc. He has been in the 3D-scanning reality capture field for years, and he has filed numerous patents. He has brought value to F3's clients by developing a workflow that combines traditional land surveying, 3D laser scanning, 3D CAD modeling, and 3D printing. The company has over 50 employees and is located in California's San Francisco Bay Area. Sean is an instructor for the land surveyor apprenticeship and gives instruction in specialty courses in 3D scanning technology. He has spoken for both Trimble Navigation, Ltd., and Leica Geosystems on the subject of inventive laser scanning in conferences around the world. Sean's 3D scanning experience is extensive, and he currently oversees 5 3D scanning crews, a reverse engineering team, 2 metrology crews, and 12 land surveying crews, with clients such as Google, Shell Oil Company, Chevron Corporation, Apple Inc., and the Walt Disney Company.
