As a contractor, would you like to focus your owner on what matters? What if the asset data was collected, organized, and usable before the facility opened? Our industry is producing some fantastic data, but owners are often left with none of it or an overwhelming, unusable amount of it. This class will focus on what a facilities team genuinely needs to maintain the building. We’ll give you the questions to ask in order to focus on the data facilities that technicians need, not the data we want to provide them with. We’ll also discuss the processes needed to achieve success.

The Mortenson|McCarthy joint venture team is currently building the $1.9 billion domed stadium. To overcome the aggressive schedule, scale and complexity the project is supported by a culture that fosters an innovative approach to implementing advanced technology, processes and lean construction methodology. In this session Joel Jacobson, and his 3+ years of managing Drone deployment on large-scale Mortenson projects, will share his unique approach to partnering with industry experts such as Dustin Williams of FlywheelAEC to deliver enhanced project awareness and improved communication across the entire Las Vegas Stadium project team. Joel and Dustin will share and discuss best practices, future outlook observed within the industry, and will demonstrate the lessons learned and data visualizations produced as a result of effective planning and coordination.

Is your Revit model corrupt or causing crashes? Is the team unable to work and is losing productivity? We'll arm you with the knowledge and the tools required to analyze and identify issues using the journal files and slog files. Finally, we'll review best practices for reducing the incidence of model corruption.

An important part of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process for concrete structures is the derivation of 2D shop drawings from the 3D reinforcement model. This model is more or less the same worldwide; shop drawings, however, may look very different. This class will show you how to use Revit Structure software together with SOFiSTiK Reinforcement Detailing to easily produce shop drawings and schedules out of Revit software models that contain rebars. Learn how to use individual content to meet requirements of different markets and company standards. A second part of the course will cover the creation and modification of the required families.

In August 2015, Arkansas Children's, Inc., announced plans to build a freestanding children's hospital in Springdale, Arkansas, to advance pediatric health care in the region and provide care close to home for the more than 200,000 children. The new building-Arkansas Children's Northwest-will include 235,000 square feet of inpatient beds, emergency care, diagnostic services, and clinical space. The hospital's construction and facilities team put together a detailed set of data specifications to streamline the handover of the building and jumpstart maintenance and operations. The goal was to have all equipment data populated in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) by substantial completion in the fall of 2017. This will let critical maintenance processes be in place prior to completion. To realize that vision, a number of issues had to be addressed to successfully hand over data before the end of the project. This presentation will walk through planning, design, construction, and the beginning of operations.

In 2016, Fayetteville, AR, began planning a 70,000-square-foot expansion to their existing library. The project adds innovative, community-focused spaces where patrons can develop photography, experience VR, and host large-scale events. One challenge identified by the owner was how to manage the equipment in both the new addition and the existing building. The facilities team decided to use BIM 360 Ops software as their computerized maintenance management system and engaged a consultant to streamline the data-import process. This class will explain the process and key considerations for successful integration of BIM 360 Ops for existing and new construction. The team worked together to establish the asset list to ensure streamlined import of data from the facility’s existing documentation and the expansion’s design and construction data. The completed project brings the library’s asset information into one place, enabling staff to effectively operate and maintain the expanded building.

As our global population increases, remote indigenous communities are compelled to develop to accommodate growth and responsible tourism. Technology is now available to support and promote development of remote communities in an environmentally and culturally sustainable manner. Specifically, photogrammetry and virtual reality (VR) enable effective decisions about sensitive development by empowering stakeholders with intuitive, immersive experiences of site conditions from new points of view. This session will present a recent project on the remote Fiji island of Vorovoro, executed as a joint effort between an indigenous island tribe, a university construction management program, a social enterprise promoting positive social impact, and a global AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) software corporation. The collaborative team created a feasibility study for a dam to retain fresh water on the island; developed new data workflows; and used drones, VR, and cloud-based collaboration platforms with a Forge partner.

Japan has a lot of natural disasters. We suffer from damages by earthquakes, typhoons, tornados, flood etc. For those victims of large-scale disasters, temporary houses are provided by the government. With its prefab building technology, Daiwa House Group has built the largest number of temporary houses in Japan. By utilizing BIM, we are challenging to shorten the lead time to provide temporary houses. Two types of programs by Dynamo are under development. One is to create layout drawings with interactive design method and the other is to create Revit detailed models and detailed drawings automatically.

Have you experienced any of these issues with AutoCAD products: slow opening of drawings, crashing, pausing within AutoCAD, and slow plotting? Clients, subconsultants, and approving agencies often have DWG™ files that get corrupted. This can cause loss of work and missed deadlines. Drawing corruption can range from small, annoying issues to being unable to open or print files. This corruption can affect your files and spread across your projects rapidly. In this session, we’ll explore methodologies and workflows to prevent files from getting corrupted due to internal and external factors. We’ll review eight things that cause drawing slowness, and we’ll show how to repair the drawings.

This class will discuss the United Kingdom Building Information Modeling (BIM) Mandate that was implemented on April 4th, 2016, and its wider implications on the industry. You'll hear how the principles behind the mandate could affect you and improve your day-to-day workflows, even if you don't have a mandate. And you’ll learn how Autodesk, Inc., is supporting those principles to enable everyone in the construction process to participate in a U.K. BIM Level 2 project. AIA Approved

If you can model it, you can schedule it. Using schedules in Revit software is a powerful way of viewing the information in your Building Information Modeling (BIM) projects. Schedules in Revit software have improved over the past couple of releases. In this session we’ll explore the new features in schedules, as well as discuss some of the lesser-known parts of creating schedules, like creating embedded schedules, using conditional formatting in schedules, or understanding key schedules. We will also dive into shared, project, and global parameters, and how to use them in calculated formulas. This session features Revit.

The National Building Information Modeling Standard (NBIMS) doesn't attempt to define graphical standards so the United States National CAD Standard (NCS) remains the standard for the foreseeable future. The NCS still applies because much of the output from BIM is still printed drawings and CAD exports. Which standard applies to what? Where should those transitioning from a CAD to BIM environment look within these standards for guidance? A BIM module is being developed to interconnect the National CAD Standard and the National BIM Standard to address these questions and more. This roundtable discussion gives attendees the opportunity to provide input that shapes a BIM module within the National CAD Standard to interconnect the standards. Attendees also gain knowledge on how to get involved in future development of the standards.

Layout and editing of Pressure Pipe Networks was improved in Civil 3D 2021 software with new workflows focusing on horizontal and vertical paths of pipe runs. Pressure pipe, fitting, and appurtenance locations are modified by controlling the path of the pipe runs instead of having to manipulate each individual part in the network. This class is intended for designers either new to Civil 3D software or more experienced but looking for new ways to design pipe utility networks based on horizontal and vertical paths. This class will explore easier methods to define a lowering at a crossing pipe and follow the path of horizontal directional drilling.

Even more difficult than finding space to build increasingly taller skyscrapers, is finding room to place new urban underground infrastructure. Urban underground space is an extremely rare and limited resource, and the growing underground race demands efficient solutions due to climate changes in our atmosphere. Subways, underground parking lots, gas piping, drainage, and sewers systems have been built throughout the years in large cities around the globe, and, in several cases, built without any master planning or blueprints. In this class, we will present how Civil 3D software can be used to design drainage systems in a high-density urban underground infrastructure environment, and how Dynamo software can help to enhance the workflows.
