Parametric design tools aren't just for programs like Inventor, Revit, InfraWorks, or Civil 3D software; there's a set of parametric drawing tools that you can use to create dynamic relationships and constraints between objects in AutoCAD software as well. The parametric drawing tools will revolutionize the way that you draw and edit objects in AutoCAD. This class will introduce you to parametric drawing in AutoCAD by using both geometric and dimensional constraints to add intelligence to your objects. You will learn how using AutoConstrain and Infer Constraints modes can help you quickly add constraints and change your process from drafting to modeling. If you've ever wanted geometry in your drawing to update based on changes that you've made to other objects, or if you've wanted to type a new value into a dimension and have the object update based on this new value—then this class is for you.

Industrial piping design tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D software are now sophisticated and mature tools in many capacities across the specification-driven, P&ID-validated, data-driven fronts. However, other disciplines are engaging with more-contemporary modes of design, communication speed, and risk reduction. This paper will discuss how complimentary computational-design processes can harness power from other disciplines such as 3D geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in product design, mesh backdrops originating from reality capture processes, intelligent AutoCAD-Plant-3D-to-Revit interoperations through APIs, through to the creation of specifications from legacy data fragments for seamless piping component file (PCF) imports.

We'll explore features from the beginning of AutoCAD software up to AutoCAD 2015 software. This session is all about me sharing my love and passion for AutoCAD software with you.

Have you experienced any of these issues with AutoCAD products: slow opening of drawings, crashing, pausing within AutoCAD, and slow plotting? Clients, sub-consultants, and approving agencies often have DWG™ files that get corrupted. This can cause loss of work and missed deadlines. Drawing corruption can range from small annoying issues to being unable to open or print files. This corruption can affect your files and spread across your projects rapidly. In this session, we will explore methodologies and workflows to prevent files from getting corrupted due to internal and external factors. We will review 7 things that cause drawing slowness, and we’ll show how to repair the drawings.

This presentation will walk you through the workflow of utilizing A360 and BIM 360 Glue software from a perspective of the natural gas industry. Witness the lifecycle from engineering through construction along with the key resource usage and efficiencies. Discuss lessons learned and key items utilized to make these tools successful additions to a Building Information Modeling (BIM) project lifecycle.

In this class, we’ll discuss how to manipulate settings and options to improve speed. We’ll discuss how to set up drawings using Xrefs and utilizing paper space and model space. We’ll also look at how layer commands and object display settings can reduce clutter in your drawings to make it easier to manipulate drawing components. This class will help you become more familiar with some of the options in AutoCAD, and help you take that next step in your career using the many tools AutoCAD has to offer.

In this class, we will cover the modeling of a sewer system for the purpose of running analysis to locate maintenance and rehabilitation issues. We will cover importing information from Civil 3D software as well as stand-alone file input. We will use an existing working project containing 364 pipes, 11 meter stations, and a pump station using 5 pumps.

In this class you will learn some useful steps to customize content to use in your AutoCAD P&ID software projects. We will lead you through accessing the project setup and understanding what you can edit. We will particularly focus on accessing engineering items. This will involve creating custom equipment, inline assets, instrumentation, and lines. In addition you will learn how to create unique tagging and custom off-page connectors.

Between 2012 and 2013, Autodesk Brazil developed content for Petrobras, which is one of the most well-known oil companies in the world. In Brazil, it is responsible for a large portion of exploration and production and almost all of the refining activities, creating and impacting directly a huge ecosystem of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects; equipment manufacturers; and construction companies. In this class, we go through the process of creating a new P&ID library and the 3D specs for this specific ecosystem. We discuss best practices and share lessons we learned. A Petrobras representative will be present to describe how Plant Design Suite fits into their business.

Are you a casual LISP programmer? Do you get what you want done but feel like you have to bludgeon your way through it? Do you have trouble getting what's under the hood into overdrive? Then, this class is for you. You'll learn many of the things that real power AutoLISP programmers know.

This class focuses on the particular challenges of documenting and modeling brownfield process plants using AutoCAD® Plant 3D software, AutoCAD® software, and other available hardware and software tools. As we go through several case studies of actual brownfield projects, you learn how to account for and overcome the numerous challenges that brownfield plants present, such as hostile weather, heat and vibration from ongoing operations, dangerous conditions and more. You also learn how the Autodesk suite of plant design and modeling tools, along with third-party software, can create a fast, accurate modeling workflow for your brownfield project.

This class will dive into all things tool palette, exploring how much of a benefit they can be for group standardization and design production. We’ll show you how to create a fresh tool palette with commands, 2D, 3D, and dynamic blocks, and how to create customized lists for the tabs of blocks, separating them into discipline groups that the user can easily filter. Commands such as Line, Script, and LISP files can be inserted and shown as easy-to-pick icons to run just about anything you can dream up. Lastly, we’ll provide a couple of ways to create both a protected network and local structure for setting the palettes as "Read Only" for users, but letting the CAD manager maintain the master palette. The beauty of this is that the changes will replicate across a large or small group instantly, only requiring the users to relaunch AutoCAD software in order to see the palette updates.

A common workflow issue is managing drawings with CAD standards issues: blocks on the wrong layer, text with the wrong style or size, and so on. But taking the time to fix these issues can be a daunting process. In this lab, we will walk through several tools that AutoCAD software offers to speed up this process. You will also learn techniques to make your drawings open faster, have smaller file sizes, and reduce crashing. This is a crucial part of your day-to-day workflow!

Topics may include point clouds to fabrication, scanning for asset management, verifying new design in the as-built environment, and more. In addition, speakers will show practical demonstrations of how these workflows are accomplished in Autodesk software This session features AutoCAD Plant 3D and ReCap 360.

In this roundtable session, we will talk about future directions for AutoCAD P&ID software and AutoCAD Plant 3D software. Come prepared to discuss what features you would like to see in AutoCAD P&ID or AutoCAD Plant 3D. What would you like to do with your data outside your drawings? Topics for discussion include data management, interoperability between AutoCAD P&ID and AutoCAD Plant 3D, validations, and spec-driven P&ID.

The alarming trend of schedule and cost overruns in conjunction with unprecedented market forces has led to a demand for innovation. Among these results, there has been tremendous progress in the elimination, through automation, of the 4.2% of total capital expenditure that—according to NIST GCR 04-867, National Institute of Standards and Technology U.S. Department of Commerce Technology Administration—is the result of poor project handover. With the Forge platform, as much as 40% of engineering time can be eliminated by enabling rapid access to current project information for engineers, vendors, fabricators, and other stakeholders. Forge software has also enabled digital workflows for lists, reports, logs, scheduling, requests for information, and construction planning during the engineering and design phase, which has, in turn, led to automated construction work packages. You’ll hear about these amazing developments in this lecture.

AutoCAD P&ID piping design software and AutoCAD Plant 3D design software create a whole lot of data while you’re drawing. This class will show how you start with a simple report and then start grouping and ordering it in the way you need. You will learn how to define the classes you want to use for your report and how to lay out your report. We will also explain the user interface of DevExpress’s Report Designer so you know how to work with the different palettes. This session features AutoCAD P&ID and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
