For too long, the environmental impact of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems has been underestimated, especially compared to structural and architectural elements. However, case studies, particularly those involving industrial buildings, reveal a significant impact. Unfortunately, most off-the-shelf lifecycle analysis (LCA) solutions don't address MEP. As a global leader in design and consulting services, Jacobs is here to change that. We've developed and built a custom Power BI visual. This innovative tool pulls both models and their associated metadata directly into Power BI. Our LCA experts then took things a step further. They developed calculations that convert the extracted data on quantities, dimensions, and materials into measurable global warming impacts. The result? Powerful LCA dashboards with clear model visuals. These tools empower our engineers and clients to make data-driven decisions that minimize the global warming impact of their designs.

This session will detail how to use Revit software and building information modeling (BIM) for complete load calculation with the help of API development, from power outlets to lighting fixtures and up to the main switchboard. In an underground railway station project, a total load of approximately 4,000 amps has been successfully calculated for the electrical system design. We understand there are difficulties to simultaneously use BIM for electrical engineering, 3D modeling, and 2D drawings in a single model. This case study will demonstrate it can be successfully achieved with great efficiency. We'll explore: 1. How to make smart families that are efficient and easy to use for calculation and 3D and 2D representation. 2. How to connect the circuits and pass the load upstream for the whole system, including UPS and duty-standby situations. 3. How to calculate electrical load from other disciplines, such as HVAC and Comms. 4. How to calculate electrical load from other models, e.g., electrical load from tunnel models to station model.

"Under the microscope," we'll examine how the SSOE Group has implemented the Autodesk Construction Cloud Assets module to organize and manage lab, mechanical, and electrical equipment while mapping Revit models to improve design coordination. Information can then be shared among trade partners, project managers, field operatives, and other stakeholders for full progress transparency.

This session will discuss content, tools, and workflows developed to support the creation of a Revit model and documents from design phases through design for manufacturing and assembly (DfMA). Implementing Revit software for design phases is in many ways much different than doing the same for downstream phases, which often is not an issue, since the teams are separate and working in different models, and maybe even in different software. The challenge of taking one Revit model from early design through manufacturing is unique. We've learned many lessons and had many opportunities to think outside the typical design approaches to Revit through using Assemblies and Assembly Views; creating various versions of detailed and accurate bills of materials; and developing content, tools, workflows, templates, and more to accommodate all phases of modeling and documentation. This session will share some of the most interesting challenges, and how they were overcome.

This presentation will focus on using the integration between Autodesk Construction Cloud, Revit, Power Automate, and Power BI software to effectively manage projects and family creation. Using Power Automate, project management tasks in Autodesk Construction Cloud are automated, reducing team members' workloads. Power BI is then used to analyze data collected from Autodesk Construction Cloud, providing real-time insights into project progress and performance for swift decision making. Additionally, in family creation, collaboration with domestic equipment manufacturers facilitates semiautomated creation of families with manufacturer specifications. Integration with Inventor software streamlines the creation of equipment parts like support steel, further enhancing the efficiency of the family creation process. Finally, the created families are managed in a database within Power BI, contributing to improved project productivity.

This session will cover the adventure of electromechanical designs with lifecycles that started with AutoCAD Electrical software and Inventor synchronization and extended to architectural projects. The data synchronized with AutoCAD Electrical and Inventor software can be managed with Vault software and Autodesk Construction Cloud. It can be defined as 3D BIM content—electrical connector in Inventor and transferred to Revit. Through the collaboration of Autodesk Construction Cloud and Vault, we can share both Revit and Inventor data with colleagues in different departments, edit them, and publish the final versions.

Bridge construction in Norway in 2024 is a different ballgame than it was in 2015. We've transitioned to full digital design and construction without drawings. This would have been impossible without a rich Revit API. We've created our own add-in, scaling from 10 users in 2019 to 1,300 users in 2024. What a success!
