The success story of how DRA GLOBAL an Engineering Service company in the Mining and Mineral Resource space transitioned to cloud collaboration. With basic BIM360 usage, and enough DOCS licenses we were able to “unlock” the sudden lockdown situation. A fast-track transition was required to service multiple projects at various stages of design and construction. Reassuring our Project Teams, Client’s and Sub-Contractors that work will continue as normal. With BIM360 DOCS functionalities and well-established workflows and processes, we transitioned into the digital workspace. Instantly our 350 strong multidisciplinary Design group, could carry on working remotely. We shared designs, reviewed, checked and approved drawings with Clients, Consultants, Suppliers, and Sub-Contractors' input. A highlight was the application of 3D Model content used for reviews, which just reinforced DRA Global’s design capabilities and gave a sense of confidence to all.

With 15 km of metro line and 15 stations developed in Sao Paulo, Line 6 is the largest public-private infrastructure project under development in Latin America, and one of Acciona’s largest projects. Resuming it has its challenges: the size of the project, its complex and diverse city setting, the large network of stakeholders, and the extra challenge of a contract resumed after several years of being on hold. Building information modeling (BIM) had been implemented across most disciplines, allowing a smooth restart helped by point clouds and our topographers providing daily feedback to our engineering team. Forma Data Management software as a common data environment (CDE) has helped us to achieve the transversality of information. It has become a key tool for regarding project review, design interface, and constructability solutions. In the time of a pandemic, Autodesk Forma has facilitated the coordination and collaboration between different teams and countries, ensuring that key stakeholders have access to the latest data, anytime and anywhere.

Large and complex projects often present large and complex problems that can last a lifetime if not properly managed. One of those problems can be establishing the appropriate geolocation of buildings on a site, or, in Revit-speak, "shared coordinates." As we explore two Bavarian-inspired destination towns that have been years in the making, and are worth billions of dollars in investment, time, and coordination, we’ll analyze how time can cause geographical data to shift and leave a place in space not where you thought it once was. Understand how this impacts existing built work and causes anticipated construction schedules to shift, and see how to reestablish shared coordinates in multiple platforms (Revit software, Civil 3D software, AutoCAD software, Navisworks software) to prevent miscommunications and downtime before it happens. The translation of data from party to party throughout the lifecycle of a project is vital. Join us as we discuss some of the do’s and don’ts developed throughout decades of relationships with these two projects.

For the last two years during the pandemic, Jacobs’ digital delivery team in Australia has been aware of the increasing challenges posed by remote project collaboration and stakeholder engagement. We’ve developed a platform named SIFT that is built on top of Autodesk Forge, Microsoft Power Platform, and Microsoft Azure services to help accelerate our internal digital transformation. SIFT democratizes building information modeling (BIM) data by helping design teams better consume and understand design information from intelligent models, bridging the gap between specialized BIM software and end users, and making information from Autodesk Forma easily accessible through enterprise-level IT infrastructure like Microsoft 365. When used together with Microsoft Power Platform, SIFT helps us effectively remove most coding requirements and lower the threshold for adoption and operation of BIM technologies, making BIM data more accessible and actionable.

Real estate and infrastructure are facing high pressure to reduce CO2 and waste. This class will demonstrate how to digitize existing real estate or infrastructure portfolios with a focus on decarbonization and reuse of material. The class will cover how to find out the CO2 footprint of a current portfolio, how to capture material, and how to use it as a material mine and bring it into a circle, as natural resources like sand and water are limited and shrinking drastically. The class will present a real example involving the Swiss Army based on other examples of relevant real estate owners in Switzerland. Digital twins are crucial in this context to the very precise and reliable capture and analysis of the data, and they help accelerate decisions and implementation, accelerate time to market, and ultimately lead to even more revenue for the owners. Technology showcased will be Revit software, Autodesk Tandem, InfraWorks software, and Autodesk Forma.

Technology in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry is changing rapidly. To keep up with this accelerated pace, VHB is stating that our default design practice will be model-based design (MBD) by 2025. This means training 800+ Civil 3D users in more-automated, connected, and advanced workflows. We recognize that to create this large-scale shift we need to train a generation of innovative and inspiring coaches to help guide others through this change. Advanced MBD Training was created to mold 10% of our Civil 3D users into MBD Project Coaches. As MBD Project Coaches, they'll be expected to advance MBD from automating processes to creating more-efficient workflows. The training will focus not only on our core tool, Civil 3D, but it will also include Dynamo, InfraWorks software, Subassembly Composer, Grading Optimization, ArcGIS Connector, Autodesk Forma, and Twinmotion. This session will walk through how we built and implemented this program to accelerate change at VHB.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) will be managing the expansion of its Transmission Infrastructure to meet carbon net zero and growth in offshore wind generation by 2030, with an expected annual project spend of £1 billion. With growing demands on resources and a goal to save £250 million by 2026, SSEN partnered with Mott MacDonald to develop a practical approach for substation design using Autodesk Forma and the Autodesk suite of tools. While the traditional methods were fit for purpose, we needed to minimize data loss between project stages, enhance collaboration, and optimize the productivity of the workforce. Adoption of this workflow led to a 30% time savings in the early design phase and improved transfer of project data during detail design. And it provided tangible insights for process improvement and business decisions. The result is a workflow that's scalable and can be adopted across different organizations looking for transformational change to their infrastructure delivery.

Due to their nature, rail infrastructure projects greatly benefit from the adoption of workflows based on intelligent models and point clouds to allow off-site analyses without the need of the physical presence on the field. FSTechnology, a division of the Italian Railways, set up this workflow based on an integration of Autodesk software—including Autodesk Forma, Revit software, and Civil 3D software—with Esri ArcGIS GeoBIM. We combined CAD, building information modeling (BIM), point clouds, and orthophotos with geographic information system (GIS) and game engine technologies and added the construction program in a browser-based 4D solution with issue tracking. This is not only intended to monitor the progress of the physical works being executed, but also to achieve better control during the maintenance phase of the railways. All these combined and advanced technologies help us to monitor the most-critical infrastructures like viaducts and bridges, and factors of environmental interest and relevance, supported by artificial intelligence.
